Worse.
But I'm not sure giving a widely taught example of the US' contribution to the war effort to diminish that of the Soviet's disproves my point.

I'm sure he'll get a rousing welcome from the crowd if he's successful in gaining entry.

No way would they have walked had they been poor black kids.
Certainly not, but I suppose that's these guys using their privilege for good.

Was Colston involved in Colston press? That stuff is really nice and I could do without having to boycott it.

I agree, but I’m not particularly aware of the role of the Soviet Union being diminished. Don’t most people who have a passing knowledge of WW2 know that the battle of Stalingrad was the turning point on the Eastern front, and by extension in Europe? I’m asking in good faith by the way!

I believe that's Cawston Press unless there's a competing brand I've not tried yet?

Don’t most people who have a passing knowledge of WW2
No, all they know is are lads, sticking it to Jerry, poppies, 2 world wars and 1 world cup.

Colston press
Do you mean Cawston Press?

Story in the Times today about the inquiry and the lack of transparency on scope, personnel and cost.

I imagine if you went to Russia and talked to football casuals you might get a similarly chauvinistic analysis. I’m not sure what my point is though.

• #69438
Yes. Any relation?

Oddly, had they been black kids (poor or not) getting off on the charge I would not have objected in the slightest.
Having said that though I have been educated with a bit more of the back story via this thread - I had no idea in particular that an educational additional plaque had been blocked.

I'd say it is a waste of public money if they are investigating every single street name that may or may not have links to historically questionable practices.
I dont need or want to know who the panel are though.
Would be up for all the statues of English royals being lobbed in the Forth ;o)

There are lots of examples, but the casual undermining of THE extent of the Soviets role in WWII in favour of the USA and Britain is an obvious one.
This is a good read:

No way would they have walked had they been poor black kids.
Correct however they’re doing something that they can use their privileges in the right direction.
-
• #69447
You say that but it was a loophole, and the government is trying to close it.
-

Gonna take a contrary stand and say it's the educational attainment and funding/standard of legal representation that matters more than colour.
I don't think black students with the same backgrounds would have received a different result. And I think lower class white kids unemployed or with mcjobs would have.
Also whether conscious or not, I think there's an implied stereotyping that assumes that you don't have educated articulate black people. The comparisons jump straight to poor black kids.

I think you're safe.

Robert Jenrick, a qualified solicitor, on Twitter arguing that a jury trial somehow undermines the rule of law.
He either qualified as a solicitor somehow without learning what the rule of law is and is too thick to realise it, or he is deliberately talking shite to grift and dog whistle.
I know which I'd put my money on.
Society of Merchant Venturers did a good job of blocking previous attempts at a plaque.
