  • Cheat shoes ftw!

  • Saucony Endorphin Shift

1 or 2? Not sure what the difference is. I've got some Hoka Elevon 2 and after 100 miles they feel a bit flat. Might give these a go. (Being a 9 none of those Nikes in stoxk!)

  • I've not had much luck with cheat shoes.

Zoomflys have been returned, adios pro 2 also went back, saucony endorphin pros too.

Adizero pro are my most cheaty shoe, but they're not as cheat as cheaty can be

I imagine that a bit of targeted training would do more than lobbing £150 at some shoes, but I'm lazy

  • I have the 1s - imagine the 2s are similar. 1s are pretty cheap right now.

  • That thing where you go running in heavy rain and it's 3°C out, and your wobbly inner thighs get cold, wet, chaffed, and itchy af.

    That.

  • On a very different note, we'll hopefully be in Sydney in Feb to see my wife's family. What do I need for 28º long runs? A weird baby bottle thing? One of those jazzy little running caps?

  • [Edit] With this hat tho

  • When I’ve been running in hot weather I generally wear a hat dunked in cold water. I bought a Hoka bucket hat last year which keeps sun off forehead & neck. Just try and get out early/late before mid-day sun

  • 2022 goals:

    1. Train properly for Summer Spine and arrive at start feeling like I've prepared well
    2. Do more (than none) S&C, including trying to address my weaker left side
    3. Ignore annual mileage targets and focus on more measurable goals than "run a lot"
  • Train properly for Summer Spine and arrive at start feeling like I've prepared well

+1 I've turned down free mcr mara spot as it'd not be the right focused prep, even for the sprint.

I've also turned down a free spot on Sunday for the Trig race as I'm not in 20 winter miles condition. :/

  • An alarm clock.

Best to get up early and run before it gets hot. If it gets really hot and humid then running is just no fun.

  • Good point. In the past I’ve always gone out there pre-breakfast but only 20 to 30 mins. I’m into longer-slower now, wondering if I’ll need water on a 40 to 60 min run. There is a drinking fountain on one of my routes so I’m probably just over thinking it.

  • I think you should be fine - get a good drink in before bed etc and that sort of time you’ll be alright

  • Yep. If it’s too hot/humid (38 degrees or something) then nothing is going it make it better. Earlier in the day you’ll miss the burning sun.

That said it always rains when I go to Sydney (which was a couple of times a year pre-covid): summer, winter, didn’t matter.

  • Ooooh finally my area of expertise! I don't know how humid Sydney is but I've done long runs in 38 degrees and 90% humidity. Wear a hat and sunglasses. Dry your shoes properly when you get back as otherwise they'll start to rot. Run as early as possible. You said there's a drinking fountain - if that's the case then you won't need to take any water, just drink water before you head out and have a pocari sweat (other sports drinks are acceptable, I guess, but I'm pocari4lyf) when you get back. Oh and wear sunblock, australian sun is vicious. There are loads of sports-specific ones available in Aus that don't sweat off quite as quickly, but you'll need to factor in putting it on and letting it set before heading out (and also don't put too much on your forehead or it will melt into your eyes).

  • Top advice, thanks.

Not sure I can pull off a hypebeast bucket hat 😂 though I did get one of these for cheap (free postage too) so thanks for the recco. Seems the bucket / adventure hat has been discontinued.

  • As hats, I endorse all sorts of hats!
In fact, this weekend I'm organising a HM and will be wearing a navy admiral's hat, hope I don't arrested for impersonating the military...

  • Seems the bucket / adventure hat has been discontinued

Ciele do one too that's quite good. Brims not as big though.

  • Anyone had any experience with Higher State jackets?

Price point and reviews of the below seem
    very good…

  • We need a pic 😁😁. Strong hat game!

  • 1st post Xmas run today felt quite ploddy.

  • I like the tights, the waffle top, and the jogging bottoms I've had from them. Nothing spectacular but solid.
    Joggers are well comfy.

  • Can confirm the waffle top is good v toasty. Its quite a snug fit so if you like them a bit looser maybe go a size up.
