  • The majority of that leak appears to be from the blue arrow tap body seal. Tightening that is unlikely to help.

The gland nut may be leaking slightly, but that would be evident between the spindle and rounded off nut. Red arrow.

With lead pipes, they could also end up leaking if you go swinging a wrench too hard. Also stopcock is likely to be old imperial sized if it goes pear shaped.

  • Managed to pop down to Screwfix last Nighy to grab some mole grips. It was all in the gland nut it seems, just had to pack it out with PTFE and its all nice and dry now. Felt extremely accomplished!

But yeah, only slight note that we've got a lead supply pipe - something to think about in the future, maybe before we try looking at getting the garden looking good.

Your supply company may do a free replacement and re-connection of the lead pipe... but probably just up to your boundary. The comple run must be replaced at the same time, so you'll have some digging to do on your side.

Glad the immediate leak has been sorted.

  • If you do get the pipe replaced, take the lead to your local metal dealer for £. Don't let your plumber scarper with it!
