  • Hunt for the Wildepeople was last night’s film. Was really good. Many genuine lols. Only very occasionally too schmaltzy. My partner loved it, which was a win as it was my pick and it’s always nice to pick the right film for the other person.

  • Extreme Prejudice is amazing. So much testosterone in that one, I needed a shave halfway through

  • So much love for that film. Might watch it today now you’ve mentioned it.

  • I think Die Hard 4.0 is better than 2.

I watched Trading Places cos it's a Christmas film. I forgot Eddie Murphy broke the fourth wall, when Murphy walks off after being exposed as a fake amputee. And again later:

  • we watched the die hards over christmas - I'd rate them: 3 > 1 (it's marginal) >>> 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2. need to watch 5 but don't have high hopes

  • Y u no 6?

Edit: I am living in a parallel universe where DH6 never happened. Sorry.

  • His daughter in DH is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate on Netflix with her is quite good, she's an assassin who runs along rooftops and does unnecessary forward rolls. Bit predictable.

  • Mubi are doing 3 months for £1 at the moment if anyone's interested!

  • Hunt for the wilderpeople.
    Thanks, wife's crying.

  • Power of the Dog. Jane Campion/Netflix is worth a watch.
think its going to feature heavily in the Oscars this year, everything in it is superb not just the acting but sound and cinematography.

  • SC has a brilliant Ry Cooder soundtrack. The other don't.

  • I thought it was terrible, could have fallen asleep, each to their own.

  • don’t bother with The Lost Daughter then!
    (Olivia Colman dir:Maggie Gyllenhall)
    i really liked that too.

  • Anyone have an Everyman membership? Just signed up and trying to book for next week but every film/cinema seems to only have booking available until Thursday this week? Is that normal?

  • That’s correct, this is how it works

    https://www.everymancinema.com/general-faqs

We confirm our film programme on the Monday of each week for that Friday through Thursday. We therefore usually cannot confirm until Monday evening/Tuesday morning when the new listings are live on our website, whether we will be showing a specific film in advance. With some of the bigger blockbusters we are able to get them on sale earlier however it varies. Best thing to do is stay posted on our film listings page

  • watched the new matrix… which actually kinda owned, much to my surprise given the mixed notices it has been receiving. need to go back and rewatch the original trilogy again, in light of 4

  • Watched The Gentleman today, Guy Ritchie really has made some clangers over the years. An interesting soundtrack was the only redeeming feature.

  • Thanks! In your experience is it easy to get a booking? Considering I tried on Tuesday and couldn't find anything this weekend or next Monday makes me think I should probably cancel my membership.

  • Stumbled on this very short review on interwebz

  • If you live in London and can be flexible on venue then you shouldn’t have a problem, I use Broadgate, Kings X, Canary Wharf and Angel never have an issue.

  • it's not perfect and it's messy in places, with some stretches of boring action scenes. (are these contractually mandated because every film has to be 2.5 hours long these days for some reason?) but it's also really weird and beautiful and definitely worth watching imo. did not know until after that david mitchell was co-writer - tho makes a lot of sense in retrospect

  • Do not watch ‘The Wrath of Man’. I had to turn it off after 30 mins because it was incredibly predictable and misogynistic.

Guy needs to spend the rest of his days staring into a Wetherspoons breakfast, lamenting the career he could have had.

  • Interestingly, I've read online that the negative reviews are because the film accuses the media for fueling the misinformation issues we face in tackling the climate crisis, and so this is their way of disagreeing with that motion.

I did enjoy the film, but I think perhaps the above idea might be overreaching.
