But the couldn't live with the off centre screen, even temporarily

yeah this room is open and not symmetrical, has more sofia and stuff in general, the downside is that you can hear throughout the houses now so not ideal if there was more than just the two of us around.

Ya speakers aren't in your living room? Does that mean you - gasp - watch TV with built-in speakers?

live in my office, spend alot more time listening to music there than the lounge.
I find the TV speakers fine tbh, I’m not really into /cinema/ so it never really bothers me

I’ve just relocated the basement kitchen stereo (see two pages back for collapsing shelf fun)in order to connect to the TV. and after loads of remedial shelf building and cable routing have concluded that it sounds shite. It’s in an alcove to one side of the chimney breast. Sounds woofy, bass heavy and blurry. Balls.

It would do, especially if you're sitting down. You have at least +6db of bass on each speaker. +3db means perceived volume is twice as loud. The tweeters are way more directional than bass too so you're losing high end detail by not having the speakers at ear level.
In this kind of setup you have to adjust the bass & treble on the amp. I know it's frowned on these days (rollseyes) but that's why amps used to have bass and treble controls. :)

Those speakers are rear ported aren’t they? Looks quite close to the wall.
Maybe you could rejig slightly and have the TV on a (lower) shelf above the speakers, as they’d have more room on the cabinet. Would give them a try there first though as I’m no sonic engineer! And from the toys in the pic, you’re risking fingers through cones etc

Isn't +3db the minimum discernable loudness increase and +10db twice as loud?
-
• #10811
Copy pasted a thing here that probably doesn't help but it depends on things.....
Ratio doubling means:
− a power level of +3 dB, or a sound intensity level of +3 dB
− an electric voltage level of +6 dB, or a sound pressure level of +6 dB
− a loudness level of about +10 dB
−10 dB more SPL means 10 times increase in amplifier (electric) power.I was just going on my memory of the figures based on quite a bit of reading but I've not had my head in the acoustics books lately.

Hi - does anyone have any recommendations on a decent living room bluetooth speaker?
This seems to be good value (within budget) and reviewed positively. Thoughts appreciated!https://www.richersounds.com/audio-pro-addon-c10-black.html
Thanks,

Does it need to be portable/in one unit? Loads of active stereo pair options.

Ha! Yes, one reason I moved it was because little fingers kept interfering. Will live with it a few days and see how I feel. Can easily revert back to where it was (which sounded ok).

I had a small audio pro streamer for a bit. The software/app is total rubbish.
I would recommend sonos all day over audio pro. -

Does not have to be single unit but figured it would cleaner / fewer wires for a relatively compact living room - kitchen area. Thanks!

ok - thanks for the heads up; I have used sonos before.

Ruark MR1 mk2s would be my go to, particularly for a small space if you don’t want complete separates.
You could also roll your own with some 2nd hand bookshelf speakers (or something like Q-Acoustics 3020i) , and a Bluetooth class D amp and get an awful lot of bang/buck.

I like the brand. Very neutral. I have one of the earlier model bluetooth only C10's as a site radio and it does a great job.

Do they use UNDOK? Ruark use that and it's a bit basic (putting it mildly).

It's called audio pro control. Suspiciously there are no reviews in the Android store even though they have 50k DLs.

That led me down a small g hole to this article..
Had hoped to be sitting in a Tokyo Jazz Kissa for my 50th in 2021, but obvs didn't happen because of the pandemic. Brilliant Corners in Dalston was the closest I got.

Have had some life changes that meant downsizing from a 2 bedroom apartment with a huge living/kitchen/dining area to a studio. And fuck me. My HiFi sounds totally transformed. Everything just sounds so much better. It sounds like I've spent a million pounds on room treatment. Who needs a wife and someone to share rent costs with when you can have this 😂
I am obviously saying this in jest. But seriously. Sounds so damn good now.

guess you have to look on the bright side sometimes, and every room being the HiFi room can’t be too bad!
i’ll only be happy when you decide the kefs aren’t right for you and you list them on here at an advantageous price for me to snap up.
