any tips for good freeze-dried meals? preferably compostable and with a good of veggie options.

  • Only freeze dried or also normal dried? If you’re into making your own food and have space for another kitchen gadget, home dehydrators are pretty good for food you intend to eat dry.

A kg of sliced mushrooms dehydrates into a bag the size of an inner tube, with (mostly) all the calories and nutrients intact. Bananas and apples become chewy sweets. etc etc.

  • Idahoan Mash is the best we've tried, Decathlon do some ok meals but not much veggie options. We ended up getting a dehydrator to do our own meals, given the cost of the ready made ones. (lentils and beans dehydrate beautifully)

IMO you'd need to try them.
