• I’ve just relocated the basement kitchen stereo (see two pages back for collapsing shelf fun)in order to connect to the TV. and after loads of remedial shelf building and cable routing have concluded that it sounds shite. It’s in an alcove to one side of the chimney breast. Sounds woofy, bass heavy and blurry. Balls.

  • It would do, especially if you're sitting down. You have at least +6db of bass on each speaker. +3db means perceived volume is twice as loud. The tweeters are way more directional than bass too so you're losing high end detail by not having the speakers at ear level.

In this kind of setup you have to adjust the bass & treble on the amp. I know it's frowned on these days (rollseyes) but that's why amps used to have bass and treble controls. :)

  • Those speakers are rear ported aren’t they? Looks quite close to the wall.

Maybe you could rejig slightly and have the TV on a (lower) shelf above the speakers, as they’d have more room on the cabinet. Would give them a try there first though as I’m no sonic engineer! And from the toys in the pic, you’re risking fingers through cones etc
