Just some tyvek crappily stapled to the roof timbers to keep the dust out. I'm gonna leave it unsealed because it should really be installed right under the tiles and would probably cause problems where it is if there wasn't any airflow.
Got a couple of LED batten lights to go up to replace those pendants which seem to cast more shade than light. -

Want to add a fan to my bathroom ceiling to help with moisture management.
In the long term we'll have it ducted through a roof cowl but in the short term, any harm in venting directly into the attic? It is a large space (other houses on street have bedrooms up there no problem) and there are roof vents which makes the space breezy as is.
Any problems with that?

Any problems with that?
Wet insulation and mouldy roof sheeting/timbers.
I found out that our ducting had separated at a joint, after noticing the roofing ply was going black. That's a ventilated roof, with soffit vents.
Sort out the exit first, then install and hookup the fan

^ this really. Anywhere you have cold structural timbers you want to keep the atmosphere as dry as possible.

My mate has a damp problem in his bathroom, I noticed last time i was round they are venting into the celling which must be contributing.

If you can vent it to outside and if you dont have a hole cored thats something I can do (I'm sure your in glasgow)

Had a go at cleaning the magnaclean in my MIL's. Failed miserably as I could only reach one of the isolation valves with my fingertips and couldn't actually see whether it was closed or not (annoyingly they spin past off back to on).
Started to open it up but seemed to get quite a bit of water coming out so decided the valve wasn't closed.

I am! I want it done via a cowl in the slate roof so it can hook into an MVHR system at a later date. Is that still your thing?

Yes, that looks fine.
Your new switch can't do 2 way, like you might have in a hall, but you probably don't need that.

yes, just for a small bedroom so only the one switch
Red in, black out, cross fingers

Bit of plumbing advice needed... Noticed some water inside the vanity and have tracked it back to the base of the tap. The o-ring is basically flush to the tap, and sits just inside the taper of the hole in the basin, making a proper seal impossible.
Am I best looking for a bigger o-ring? Should I just apply a little silicone under the base of the tap to seal against the basin? Is there some magic gadget I can buy (like fix-a-tap, but for monobloc taps)?

I would probably try and find a large washer you can place beneath the tap base. If you can find one the same diameter as the base of the tap it shouldn't look too bad?
-
• #33741
Yeah, that is another option. Assume if we call the bathroom fitters back they'd just bang some silicone under it to avoid having to disconnect everything. Feels like a bodge though.
-
• #33742
Silicone will make life harder in the future. Plumbers mait could work maybe?
-
• #33743
That looks like a good option, at least until I find a suitable washer and the motivation to detach the tap completely.

Nah more gas/plumbing but have the kit for coring holes for flues and the same size.
-
• #33745
On that topic... Do you fit radiators? Ours are so old they are imperial sizes so likely we'll need some pipe alterations when we get new ones.
-
• #33746
They should go a quarter turn, looks really awkward the way its been done tbh. If your in any really issues just leave it till you drain the system and clean it.

Yeah Ill send you our number!

We're redoing our bathroom and need to buy stuff. Does anyone have ant recommendations apart fro the obvious B and Q, Wickes etc?
-
• #33749
what kind of stuff?
victorian plumbing, and screwfix or toolstation can be decent.
I tend to browse a bigger site like the former, then google away to see if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

No idea really! I like Scandi style stuff in the rest of the house but I've not looked at much bathroom furniture before. Will check those out!
Large pieces of Brie?
