• Thanks! That’s the spirit of the thing - decent durable parts and nothing flashy.

Yeah the paint job is the one disappointment - I made the mistake of trusting a Bristol based company (that will remain unnamed), and it’s not ideal. I’ll likely get it redone in a few years once the finish has really suffered, but it’ll do for now!

  • Have a look at cerakote by then.

I'm not UK based so doesn't matter much to me personally but why not simply state where you went for the powder coating? If you were happy with the result you'd probably end up recommending them no? If I were Bristol based I'd also be keen to understand where not to go i.e.

Just saw the first 5 minutes of Iohan's video you posted, will definitely watch the rest this evening when I'm home.

  • It's a good question, and I think my reluctance to name them publicly is just because the work they did for me on the frame is very much a side gig for them. Looking at what else they had in their workshop, it seems they're really quite good at what they do outside of bike powder coating, so I don't want to be all like "XYZ are crap" when they're clearly decent at their main line of work.

That being said, would gladly disclose via PM, and anyway Bristol's not a huge town so it wouldn't be hard to work it out. Oh and to be clear, the grey you can see under the flaking blue is not raw steel but a zinc primer, so that could be the culprit. Either way the bike is for using and I'm factoring in future recoatings anyway, as Canadian winters (i.e. slush, salt, snowy crashes) may become a factor in the midterm future.
