  • its a thread about covid, don’t see why a proposed theological approach is outside the bounds of discourse like any other? be it horse pills, paxalovid or homeopathy.
all are up for peer review.

  • here is a handy paper showing how an unvaccinated Delta case offers little protection against Omicron and the effectiveness of boosters.

    https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.12.20.21268134v1.full.pdf

and an image to sum it up (convalescent is post covid infection)

  • Why show any kind of outwards expression of support, hope, solidarity at all?

I’m going to burn all the cards that wished me a happy Christmas.
Don’t they know, they have no physical impact on whether I have a merry time or not?

  • i found saying thanks to the people i know volunteering at vaccination centres, the person i know who works in an ICU and the Nurse in my building i haven’t spoken to before far more rewarding and hopefully it showed them that people do appreciate their efforts (how it makes me feel isn’ what’s important).
i’m sure they would rather have donuts/beer/prosecco/pay rise though.

clapping is easy and a bit of a token gesture as was pointed out at the time, clapping on thursday, spreading covid on saturday.

  • Is this what learning to live with Covid looks like?

  • Convalescent 58 days after infection.
    Booster 19 days after jab.

    No further comments required.

  • This, but the study was not looking to compare apples to apples but to find useful data going forward one would presume.

But its weird they cant make a better comparison. Surely there cant be any shortage of blood samples from ppl who had covid around these days.

  • The bigger problem is finding blood from people who haven't had Covid, which has been a bit of a problem for people benchmarking Omicron's innate severity.

  • Day 10 of very mild symptoms (apart from a sore throat for a couple of days), still positive on the LFT.

  • Positive PCR this morning having consistently produced negative LFTs. Think this might have to do with our batch of LFTs being nose only but my symptoms being sore throat and general malaise. Booster was booked for yesterday so will need to be rearranged. Childminder already closed due to a positive in her household so I guess in some ways it’s good timing. Symptoms felt identical to my suspected first bout in March 2020 with a short-lived fever Saturday night, aches and pains and a sore throat, I’m now coughing stuff out of my lungs but haven’t had a persistent cough.

  • My nose LFTs were, without fail, showing positive for my partner and me, and my symptoms were very much throaty when I had symptoms. Not dismissing your experience, just an example of them working in a similar situation. Don't want people to think it's not worth using them.

  • My sister tested positive on Boxing Day morning, 2 positive LFTs. Off for a PCR test. Negative. Did another LFT out of curiosity. Positive. Her work (NHS) asked her to do another PCR to be on the safe side. Negative.

Fuck knows what was going on there - the rest of her family did an LFT from the same batch and all returned negatives - but it sure did ruin Boxing Day.

  • Could they use blood products previously collected?

  • Did you just do nose swabs?

    Is that new advice?

  • Its brand specific, some of the kits are nose only, some are nose and throat

  • Yes, completely agree - the point I was trying to make was if in doubt, get a PCR but I didn't appreciate how it could also be construed.

  • So, B16402 anyone?

  • So, B16402 anyone?

No thank you, I’ve just put one out.

  • I don't think LFT's work well enough to be effective. Probably quite a large part of the problem.

  • Thanks, I never knew there were different type of kits.

  • The biggest issue is that users don't use them correctly

  • Yeh for some reason the ones I get from the pharmacy are always nose and throat, the ones ordered online always nose only

If you venture on to Twitter the is debate about the difference in results between the different brands but don't think anyone has proven if this is just chance,a difference in sensitivity or method related

Speaking anecdotally, I prefer and find it easier doing the nose only tests (you do both nostrils)
