  • Hyper decanting or gtfo

  • My step father is a proper wine man. Missed last year so thought I’d get something to cover last years loss.

To add a story of such my Step Dad knows the Estericks of the gallery in Islington.

When I was 15/16 when he was over for supper (golf club) my step father came up to my room with a 1955 givry chambertain he’d brought over and told me to try this as it was magical.

  • I was probably smoking some weed tbf but it was.

  • Golf club chat incoming.

Same step dad has a berry brothers and Rudd account. Their tasting nights of new vintage are great. Been to many Rhone ones. It’s a great night in st James.

I like the new natural wine vibs but you simply can’t beat the classics imo

  • I bought a bottle of M&S Claret from the services because I watched an episode of Rumpole of the Bailey beforehand.

    That's how you pick wine.

  • Taste and odour stay in one's memory.

  • Worked in oddbins bitd. First excitement was the huge Aussie reds and NZ Sauvignons. Then after a while you realise the best expressions of a Syrah, Sauvignon, Chardonnay are where they were originally from.

And a lot as @hurricane_run maybe might be saying on natural wine taste of Sulphur and fall apart once opened

  • I also worked in OB bitd!

  • Aha where abouts ? I ran, west end lane, Covent Garden and Wardour at

  • Aberdeen (briefly!)

  • Afters

  • Still not a massive port fan but im sure that was a treat

  • Dow's is on the subtle side for Port, not too sweet and very drinkable.

  • Happy new year all

  • Strong art house album cover reflection game!

How is it? I've never had Lebanese wine before.

    Happy New year.

  • Can't say I'm enjoying it all that much but at least I didn't pay for it!
I'm not really qualified to be on this thread but the best description I can give is that it's watery to the taste

  • That’s a fantastic red. I always remember my dad telling me about it and didn’t get around to it until long after he was gone. Was one of those annoying things I wish I could talk to him about! Enjoy!

Opened my birthday gift from my brother tonight. Tres bon!

    Ha, silver linings and all.

  • The 2001 is past its best IMHO. There is still a lot of it around though. They harvested early and it was well thought of for a while as it was less fruit forward. Now, however, it seems resinous and solventy.

  • I bought a bottle of Mas de Daumas Gassac (‘MDG’) in Nicolas because that’s what they were drinking at the beginning of Ian McEwan’s ‘Enduring Love’. Except I wasn’t paying attention and got the red instead of the white. Nice drop, though.

  • Anyone got any recommendations for Burgundy producers. Got to go through there next week so thought I'd stop and buy a couple of bottles.

  • Well I've done my bit to reduce oversupply

  • Burgundy is a bit of a minefield. I'd recommend going to the cave / co-op in Chassagne Montrachet to try and buy a few whites.

Domaine Joblot in Givry is worth a visit for sensibly priced reds. Patrice Rion is excellent. There are hundreds of great producers tbh, they don't all sell ex-cellar to the public.

  • I love that stuff, but it is definitely a bit "different" isn't it?

  • Well, our 1998 was lovely
