F Moser 1978 Pro Bike by De Rosa

Posted on
  • Just gotten back from Italy where I picked up this gorgeous Francesco Moser pro team bike built in 1978, likely by Ugo De Rosa himself. It has original paint, with 1st Gen Super Record and lots of panto parts. Shown here with my other DeRosa, an Ariostea from around 1984/5.

The only thing I've changed, so far, is adding a 4 hole FD that I had already, bought awhile ago in the hopes of getting a De Rosa from this era.

Once the Benotto tape gets too worn and dirty I'm planning on replacing the bar wrap with black leather, and replacing the hoods with black ones. I'll also take this as an opportunity to swap out the bars, I've got a set of 3ttt Superleggero that will finish it nicely. The saddle seems a little too worn to save completely so I'm going to try and get either a Yellow or Black San Marco Concor saddle.

Finally, although the panto chainring is period correct, I do prefer the earlier ones with the D in the heart so will be keeping an eye out for one of those.

In order to fund these add ons, and the perils of living in a shared house, I will have to let the Ariostea go.

  • ICS toe clips on the Campag pedals are a nice bonus, I saw an ICS RD for sale a few months ago that I thought about buying as a just in case but I couldn't quite justify the outlay without a definite project/funds for it

  • So nice.

  • Whoah. Pretty lightly used, by the look of it

  • Cool bike.. it’s the same colour scheme as mine. Mine was built by Giovanni Taverna at Vetta cycles.

  • Pure porn there !

  • Absolute top quality!!!!

I'd say keep the gum hoods if they are in decent condition though

  • rear brake cable routing ; )

  • Beautiful! The frame details (lugs, fork panto, BB-cutout, seatstay cap pantos, portacathena dropout) are exactly like a De Rosa I bought in italy a couple years ago. Only difference seems to be the race number holder. Sold it to SVB cause I didn‘t like the non-original paintjob with its thick clear coat. Definitely prefer the Patina on yours!

  • Small update on this, I've decided to remove the red paint from the pantographing on the fork crown and brakes. It wasn't a particularly nice shade of red, and had been put on quite sloppily. Will need to disassemble the brakes to get to the rear arms, but my plan is to paint them a nice vivid yellow as in keeping with the colour scheme, and the De Rosa pantographing scheme as you would find on other bikes.
