  • Sorry to bump this thread but the end of the year has seen me add a little paunch - I’ve unfortunately added weight at the same time as losing muscle. Not a great combo but I have a decent excuse of becoming a father, a nasty cold (not covid but maybe it was) and then the holiday season. As such I’m up to 84kg. Not enough exercise but mostly unhealthy eating and drinking have been the cause.

Plan is to get down to 80kg by end of Jan and then down to 78kg in Feb but at the same time build muscle back.

  • Good luck with your endeavours. It’s a common theme at the moment with my mates and myself. Covid restrictions/Christmas/long working hours/crap diet/lack of time or commitment to do anything all result in lost fitness and weight gain. I think it will be hard to shift it too as nothing will change for a while.
I bought a book about motivation - maybe it’s time to give it a read!
And with all the above, I’ve managed to injure my bad knee in the past 20 minutes!

  • Good to get going a handful of days before the New Year I think.

Trying to start while nursing a horrendous hangover on the 1st/2nd isn’t the best start.

I hit 80kg yesterday which is pretty awful, so aiming to be back to end of last year weight of 68kg.

Most of the weight was gained at start of the year with Covid and lockdown eating, and continued due to significantly reduced post covid energy levels, and lockdown developed deliveroo habit.

I’m currently having 68kg as the goal, and working backwards. I am fully aware that weight as the only measure isn’t optimal, but am pretty aware of increasing fitness and strength during the process.

  • Exactly the same for me… working from home and having a one year old around made me complacent. Always easy to find a good excuse to skip a work out and eat trash food. I am 6’1 and have hit 88kg for the first time ever… I feel my best at around 78 too but feel for the first time that it’s gonna be a challenge for me to get fit again, having turned 33 this year.
