Do you need 26.0mm clamp diameter like the Towel Racks? Because those only come in 31.8mm.
-
• #53
31.8 is okay. i think there is a 1“ nitto quill stem with 31.8 clamp.

Yeah, there is the Nitto UI12. Spendy though.
Velo Orange also has one.

Why isn't there more bars & bar chat in here? Is there another bars thread i'm missing?
Anyway - has anyone ever mounted mtb style brakes & shifters to a wide graveaux-style flared drop bar? Is this a stupid idea that only makes sense to me?
Thinking of using something like the Ritchey Venturemax like a flat hybrid style bar with the controls on top but with the option of drops... have a bike currently set up 1x10 with mtb hydros but it used to have drops & I kinda miss that but cba swapping the brakes etc. over

The primary issue is difference in bar diameter. MTB controls are manufactured for 22.2 bars, whereas road bars use a 23.0mm diameter. There are a few niche drop bars that are made in 22.2, and I’ve seen folks do some machining/fabricating to fit the controls, but that’s out of my scope expertise.
You could do cross top levers and Paul thumbies to get the shifters and brakes up top on those without all that hassle, but then component choices are somewhat limited.
The final and likely less desirable option is a standard flat bar and some of the drop bar bar-ends mounted. SJS Cycles lists a few different brands of these, intended to afford a drops position on standard flat bars. They look pretty odd though if that matters.

Do you know in all my years of arsing around with bikes, it had never once occurred to me that road bars had a different std. diameter than mtb - suuppose i've never contemplated swapping the controls over before though!
Those drop-bar ends are probably the closest i'd get without some major changes to setup, but damn they are ugly & the shape looks a bit uninviting.
The surly corner bars look interesting but they cost a fortune, are heavy as shit and are 25.4m clamp so would need a shim...
Might dig out the On-one Geoff again & bar tape the entire thing, might give me enough options to take my mind off the wide 22.2 drop bar conundrum!

Last option is the Soma Gator Bar. 22.2mm and meant as a dirt drop sort of bar for MTB controls. Not exactly what you’re looking for I think.

I had seen those - they look purposeful but not quite close enough
Seems like i'm looking for the only configuration of bent aluminum tubing that doesn't exist!

Can the rider rest his/her/their teeth on the upper stem while riding in the drops?

All along the answer was an additional bar, instead of replacement bar - genius

Starting to dislike the Prime primavera aero carbon bars on my road bike. They have no flare or outward sweep and are not comfortable in the drops. Since getting some pro vibe pursuit on the track bike (10 degree) along with some Zipp XPLR on the gravel bike, I've starting to appreciate the improved wrist position.
Looking for flat top bars, easy to route hydraulic brake/mechanical shift cables that offer a little flare and have so far found..
PRO Vibe Aero Alloy / 6 degree
Zipp SL70 Aero Carbon / 4 degree
PRO PLT Ergo Carbon Handlebars / 4 degree -

What I'm searching for but so far no luck is a classic bend bar, or as close as possible, with less than 40cm width, maybe even 36.

The Nitto B105aa is a classic bend drop that comes in 37cm
@Zeeburg thanks! these look promising!
