Steerer cut too short

My steerer has been cut too short. With the stem slammed the steerer only reached halfway up the stem. This means only the bottom bolt is clamping.

I think I know the answer but is there any chance this is safe or is there anyway I could make it safe? It is a carbon stem and steerer.

What headset do you have fitted and what spec is the frame?

It’s a Chris King inset 8 headset, Enve road stem and a Columbus futura fork on a steel frame.

The answer, as you obviously already know, is that a new fork is the only safe solution. Certainly don't take advice from anybody who thinks Hambini is worth listening to. Somewhere in my stem caps thread you'll find the explanation of why the steerer should terminate above the top of the stem.

I am not qualified to pass judgement on anyones engineering capabilities.
I do understand that in an ideal world a new fork is best.
But just thought it was solution to save what otherwise would be a scrap fork.

If you have a larger frame, the fork might have the right length steerer for those of us with shorter head tubes.

Probably best to sell on to someone else and get a replacement.

I'm pretty sure I'd catch something unpleasant if I watched another second of Hambini. I watched one once and decided that life is too short to waste on being annoyed by his stupidity when I could use the time being educated by people like Robin Renzetti, Peter Stanton, Stefan Gotteswinter or Steve Barton

Will a lower stack stem do the job

If he's only half way up an Enve, something in the 27/28mm range like a Syntace Flat Force or FSA NS Drop is still too tall, and either will lower his bars considerably with no chance of redeeming the issue by adding spacers.

Forking hell

His chat is pretty annoying... I think he thinks hes funnier then he actually is. It can be painful viewing.

That would just be irritating. It's the fact that he thinks he's smarter than he actually is which makes watching him pointless.

Does he make good bb's though

I prefer This Old Tony, where I've seen a Stefan cameo.

Exactly, most people are riding around with the top bolt clamping thin air.
You can always have the head tube faced down.
Lots of stems only use one bolt but I can't judge that Velo product. Wouldnt be fun if your stem and bars detached from the bike
