  • what's going on with that headset, threaded converted to threadless?

    Looks like it's still threaded, you can see the lower nut is still there. So I think it has a quill adapter, and then the rotation of the top nut is countered by the stem. Seems risky but maybe it works.

  • But then the stem would clamp on the threaded part of the fork as well, unless the steerer is too short for the frame, right? I have seen threaded headsets where the threads were milled off, to be used as threadless. A christmas mystery...

    I think it also uses a quill adapter, which goes into the fork. Stem goes around the adapter.
