Nah, thankfully. Felt pretty ropey last week with a noticeably scratchy throat - before reading it was an omicron symptom. Couple of LFTs were negative and PCR likewise.
Still decided it was better to not risk travelling up to my folks tho'.

Very responsible of you - I took my PC back to my parents as I didnt want a repeat of last year when I was stuck home for 3 weeks with just a tablet

First hiccup with my scan 3XS pc build. just got an email saying "the graphics card you paid for when it was in stock is no longer in stock, would you like this <next model down in same range> for the same price to avoid any further delays?"
I can't really afford to wait as my MBP has like a 95% chance of dying on me in next few weeks so I've had to say I guess so but also including a mid-length diatribe about how this is not the experience I expected ordering from a premium service and am extremely disappointed they didn't think to allocate the card to my order when it was in stock as they're such a rare commodity and i'm no longer getting the dream pc I ordered but a compromise which significantly decreases the odds i'd recommend their services to others despite an otherwise top notch support experience so far.
not sure what it could possibly get me but it was cathartic at least.

for the same price
Absolutely unacceptable, get a partial refund. That's a proper swindle otherwise

Not reducing the price according is utter bollocks.

New bits!
Is this where I meticulously backup the important stuff from my C: drive, or just start taking things apart?

for context it's the evga 3070ti xc3 ultra as a replacement for the evga 3070 ti ftw3 ultra. the only difference in the spec is a very minor clock speed change i think. plus less ability to overclock. in practice I'm sure it's no different
Looking at the configurator the xc3 is now the option offered if you're buying a 3070ti in a build so i assume they've priced it the same as the ftw3 as 3xs has separate pricing lists to scan retail for their build components apparently (from discussion with a previous cs rep when upgrading the ram and getting a refund when it went on offer).
they've come back and said it was reserved but apparently the stock has gone walkies. the cs guy is finding out if there's a better option they can replace with in stock or if possible offer me an upgraded card instead.

That's more acceptable, I'd read it as substituting it with a 3060Ti or something.
You're correct that the difference will be negligible.

yeah it's hard to differentiate these things when talking about them. I used same range to mean 3070 ti but obviously that's just a descriptor of my own choosing.
there is a gap in rrp of about 50eur so I think it is right to feel short-changed though.

I think the true gap is having a computer or not having it.

Slow progress. Had to design a bracket for the new pump which the printer is busy producing.

No idea why anyone would buy an off the shelf computer and deprive themselves of this.

It lives! Always massive relief when they start first time.
Might have to tone down the bling a notch.

Double radiator?
What was the bit you printed?
-

Years ago when first did the plumbing I had 2 GPUs in the loop as well. Actually considered losing one of the rads for the sake of simplicity but decided against it.
Printed part is the lighter bit between case and pump. Good job I only had that filament or you wouldn't be able to see it. Quality is crap cos I needed it fast.
Incredibly, after selecting boot drive in bios, previous windows 10 install works fine. Still planning to do a clean W11 at some point tho

I am looking for an external DVD/CD read/write drive of good quality which has wide compatibility with versions of Windows (e.g., 7, 10, 11), and able to work with Linux. Is it worth looking for a USB 3 interface or is USB 2 sufficient, given the speed of optical drives? I would like it to only take up only one USB port, as some drives require a second USB port for the power supply.
Also, what is a good free Windows software (no adverts and not time-limited) to play videos from the optical drive or those stored on hard drives?
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Way back when I worked at Manchester Uni we had a lot of external Iomega drives which seemed to work pretty well, I guess they still make them?
For films I have some software that has an icon that looks like a traffic cone lol

That looks good, though I don't need the Blue-ray facility, which seems to add about a £60 additional cost; just DVD compatibility is fine. There seem to be a couple of Hitachi ones for £25-30 which look like they might be be okay.
Nice!
Got a 2TB m.2 arriving today.
Wheel still not shipped which is fucking annoying.
