One thing to note is that there are subtle differences in batteries. I stuck a new battery in my Seiko, worked for a couple of days, then nothing. Assumed the movement was shot (it's 30 years old) and stuck it in a drawer. Someone here was asking about issued Seiko chronos (my watch has a derivation of the same movement with a flyback hand added) and I did a quick Google search and discovered that my watch needed a very specific battery.
