So it's all about going slow. I seem to remember being told to select a higher gear. I guess moden automatics always go in a high a gear as possible anyway.

I always remember encouraging my dad to go though a flood in his Cavalier. My mum said it was stupid and we should turn around.

We didn't make it and my dad had to push us out.

Yes, you want to enter the water very slowly then keep a low steady speed. All the cars that fail enter too quickly causing a wave that crashes over the bonnet. The first car in this video if a perfect example of how to do it properly:

The water level was also lower too, the other like the big van got floated quite easily when the level is high.
