Happiest Season
This film got a digital release then a cinema release. It's hilarious. Perfect holiday comedy romance. Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis are a couple who decide to visit Davis's family for Christmas then it turns out she hasn't told them she's gay yet.

Made me laugh. Steenburgen never plays a baddie. Gay best mate was good too:
"Let me preface this by saying we agree fish should be in the sea"

Best film I've seen this year:

I really like Happiest Season, I think I give it an easy ride because I'm a gay woman so it resonates deep within my soul.
Single all the way is a good LGBT+ Christmas movie too, it doesn't even have a painful coming out story which is a refreshing change.

They seemed like real people, it wasn't patronising or sketchy. Notice the dad was him off Titanic? The ship designer! Took a while for me to place him.

Oh THAT'S where he is from, haha thanks.

My god, the new Matrix film is shit.

May well try "The last duel" then π

Shit in the same way as Reloaded and Revolutions? Aka, stupid and disappointing compared to the original but still vaguely fun or just shit shit?

In movies which is the most celebrated hardware? Guns?
-
• #18639
No, a lot worse, it looks like a TV movie.

I've been lucky enough to get some film viewing time in over the last week, and have watched:
Elf - stupid, family friendly Xmas saccharin, enjoyable enough with a couple of laughs
The Fifth Element - I love this film and won't hear a bad word about it
Collateral - it's not Heat, but it's very fucking good
No Time to Die - just a massive product placement topped with the worst Bond and not enough action -

The Fifth Element is one of my all time favourites. I have such fond (and strong) memories or watching it far too young with my dad and younger brother when my mum wasn't around to supervise us.

Do like Collateral - Cruise is great as a baddie, should have done more IMHO. He is great as an odious 'pick up artist'/motivational speaker in Magnolia, too.

Magnolia is on my re-watch list for next week, so many great performances in that

Watching The Christmas Chronicles, the one where Snake Plissken is Father Christmas.
Getting a few chuckles from me.
Ideal snoozing fodder for today -

I concur. JP Gaultier also did a great job on that one imo.

I think my film of the year is Luca. I canβt pay attention for most of what my four year old watches, but that just grabbed and engrossed me.

Magnolia is amazing. John C Reilly is so underrated as a proper actor.
I finally managed to watch this, and it only reinforced my belief that being COMPLETELY honest with your partner about everything you've ever done is NOT a good thing! π
