aluminium don't bend
-
• #4180
In theory 6000 series aluminium does bend some. 7000 series won't. But with thin wall tubing, yeah they may just crack
-
• #4181
Shut up all of you..
-
• #4182
Could you anneal them? As alloy might be too stiff modulus.
-
• #4183
My Piegas got squashed recently, and I can defo confirm that they did bend... but I always thought the general consensus was very much against this kind of thing?
-
• #4184
Yeah alu just tends to snap rather than bend... So I've had a rethink and won't do it.
-
• #4185
Would heating the bars up with a blow torch not facilitate bending them? Bend when hot.
I've done this with steel rebar so I imagine the process would be similar for an aluminium part.
Maybe just be careful to not bend it too far, I imagine that the metal would start tearing. -
• #4186
I can't recall why but I believe I've read that heating and bending steel would be very different from heating and bending aluminium alloy.
Perhaps someone with actual metallurgy knowledge can confirm, but in the meantime don't do it.

The annealing process as I mentioned upthread is exactly that. Heating to soften.
However I have only done it with raw Alu. -

Looking forward to seeing this.
Is it a Super Prestige?
Wheels? Finishing kit?
Have a similar winter project just need to get the thumb out and need some more inspo -

Yep Super Prestige, good eye.
Budget sacrifices had to be made somewhere so I went with a wheel set from LightBicycle, 55mm deep with Bitex hubs. I've had good success with LB in the past, this time I got their new hexacomb carbon weave. I'll have to take some better wheel shots. Cables will be the standard black campy set, the grey cable shown below is left over from the PO to make the internal routing easier. Italian everywhere else except the post and I guess the cable stops (upside down below, oops).
Black and yellow Deda presa bar tape will finish it off. Not sure yet on the bars, I was hoping for a bit more of the classic bend than what's on there now. I have a pair of Deda Speciales I might try out before committing to the tape.
Progress so far:

Ooh that is lovely, would like to see the detail on the wheels
-
• #4198
The bars great without the tape. I’d leave as is.
Are those the speciales? Or the current ones?
Edit - they’re not the speciales. What are they? I like the shape.
