I didn't know that octopuses ate chicken.

It’s not meant to be taken literally. They’re saying that octopus eat tuna, which is the chicken of the sea and is sometimes served Fryed.

I didn’t know octopi ate tuna though.

(Grammar Nazi alert) Octopi is the only incorrect one (weirdly). You can have Octopuses or Octopodes but not Octopi apparently.
