Long dead thread of mine on this very subject

Elvis in his mid 20s was bedding a 14 year old girl…..
Indeed but it was for pajama parties or pillow fights.

There's a bit of distance with most of the other artists you're admiringly though, they're no longer profiting directly from their despicableness. Admire Clapton's art when he's in the ground.

Even if we believe Priscilla; and it is believable in light of Elvis’ strong Christian faith - still properly Epstein / Jackson levels of creepy.
Anyway, I can still condemn Elvis for his appropriation of black musical culture without acknowledgement.

Does death alter moral standpoints?

• #12732
It does prevent repeat offences.

How does anyone not know what a cunt Clapton is? His music is shit so it’s hardly a difficult decision in the “good art v terrible person” dilemma

Does death alter moral standpoints?
Many people and cultures believe in not speaking ill of the dead. Then we’re left with vomitous odes to shitty people whose greatest contribution to the world was dying and leaving it without them.
There should be a ‘don’t speak overly well of the dead’ rule too.

Everyone loves you, when you're dead.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Being dead does not bequeath sainthood.

Just realised that the eponymous rhyming slang that is Gary Glitter is still extant and banged up in clink.

Nope, but they're not gonna be directly making money from your admiration anymore, their estate might but you can judge that separately, or only listen to pirates and bootlegs and think about what a cunt they are afterwards.

I'm not defending Clapton on any other aspect, but this is urban myth; it wasn't his apartment, and he wasn't there, let alone the cause.

Is there any practical reason to design the base of what I think it's a clothes rail like this? Clearing out a load of old shit at work, I've not left it in the window.

Isn’t that the top?
-
• #12742
Ah yeah, probably is, suppose it makes more sense than some T shapes coming from the middle and splitting the rail in half.
-
• #12743
Of course - in German it is known as the hakencreuzenkleidundhosenhanger.
(Prior to 1945, not wishing to offend contemporaries)

This is dredging up ancient memories, but I used to have a lot of friends in fashion retail, and I'm sure this exact issue occasionally came up.

The Price is Reich, though.
That is quite funny.

Aha.
It is actually quite clever.
By arranging the arms in this shape you avoid dead space that you would have in the centre if it was merely in a cross. So by extension; substitute a (latterly) Nazi insignia for a (sort of) Christian insignia and make better use of floor space and therefore more profit!
(There may be other parallels to draw, but I’m not going to go there)
Still, I stand by clever design (functionally)
Also not a swastika from the top - mirror image. Eye sees what it wants to see and brain gets offended.
-
• #12747
I think the arms are usually at different heights, which makes the shape less obvious.
-
• #12748
It could be a H shape and keep the same use of space. The only loss being not have a front facing rail from all 4 sides

Gary Glitter concerts at university were some of the absolute highlights of my youth. Until his court appearances. Not many crims have managed to look that repulsive in public.

Gary Glitter on the other hand - his music was shit anyway.
Creator of arguably one of the greatest British Christmas pop records ever made. Plus the Glitter band did some great stuff!
Good point.
I can detest an individual and still admire their art however.
Picasso was despicable as a human, but one of the greatest artists of all time. Mohamed Ali tried to cut a deal with the KKK. Elvis in his mid 20s was bedding a 14 year old girl…..
