If you're under 30 why would you be remotely concerned about COVID as a personal health risk?
-
• #24957
How can you be so involved in this topic and still not appreciate that measures to control covid aren't about the individual?
Don't bother answering, it's rhetorical.

I mean, it's unlikely but it can kill you or give you long term symptoms, but also, under 30s don't live in a bubble of under 30s, they live with everyone else, who also live with everyone else, and some of those everyone elses are not likely to get off so easily, it's not just a personal health risk.

Had what felt like a mild cold for latter part of the week and my missus was wiped out for the past four days but none of the cardinal covid symptoms and both no temperatures. Lateral flowed Friday and I was negative but thought safest to get a PCR on the off chance as both work in hospital and due in for the weekend. I’ve now come back positive. Since been LFT positive and the better half double negative. Likely it’s omicron and seems to be behaving differently with much much more upper respiratory tract symptoms. Be careful out there.

nah there is no way you're actually this thick

My comment above related to why the under 30s probably haven't bothered getting tested. The RTA mortality for their age group (15-30) is roughly equivalent to COVID deaths in 2020 (without the other morbidity factors inherent in the COVID stats being taken into account).
In terms of fag packet stats the likelihood is similar to being hit by a bus.

I'm assuming the question was also rhetorical or maybe wrong description - speaking for those hundreds of under-30-year-olds who have never LFT before. I guess that sentiment must be quite widespread if the attitude is so prevalent?
I work predominantly with under-25s, and we make everyone LFT twice a week, but even though some of them lost older family members last year, there does seem to be a hell of a disconnect at a personal level. -

I heard a 1/3 of London isn't vaccinated...

I'm under 30 (just) and I'm desperately avoiding catching it at all costs. I'm pretty confident that there's almost a zero percent chance it would kill me but I don't want long term symptoms like brain fog, ongoing loss of taste, chronic fatigue etc etc

I'm not sure you can avoid catching COVID. It's now a fact of life like flu. Get vaxxed to reduce the chance of serious illness (probably unlikely due to your age). The risk assessment for the younger members of our population is whether the side effects of vaccination are less of a risk than death or serious illness from COVID.

I found the lack of having done a previous test astonishing.
How they have managed to go through the past 1.5 years without being ‘made to’ due to work, contact tracing, having covid/cold symptoms…
Would be interesting to see what jobs and social groups they are in.I think that everybody I know on a personal level is double vaxxed or now had a booster, so I guess there are social groups who are almost completely unvaccinated?

They may well had the viruses but show zero symptoms.

I've just heard that a colleague has passed away this week. Shocked as it was only 3 weeks ago that we worked together. He was a lovely guy. I'd echo the be careful message.

was refused boarding on flight to portugal this eve as my fit to fly antigen test hadn't been performed by a healthcare professional ...it was home testing kit from certified lab etc.
Portuguese govt website didn't specify the requirement but uk gov website does...not sure how that happens.
had no idea this was a requirement. should have checked i suppose. -

what a shock, sorry for your loss.
I'm back to daydreaming/planning for the unexpected, like in the first wave. I really should write that will... -

More than that. 32% of over 12 year olds in London haven't had anything. Since there are loads of under 12s the number of unvaccinated Londoners is well above a third.

I've never had a flu vaccine, I think I got flu once, it was pretty fucking shit but was at the very start of Covid, if it was Covid I got it before anyone was recorded in the country so it was flu. I wouldn't be surprised if both could be eradicated with a complete global vaccination program and some concerted effort with tracking and tracing outbreaks. Either way if it is now a "fact of life" and people under 30 are cool just smashing it about the place then it's going to be floating around and evolving whilst they become people over 30, hopefully it'll just end up super mild like a cold but the Spanish flu etc. weren't exactly early in the flu viruses history and they killed millions, it's a shit way of thinking about it and makes things worse for everyone.

“ More than that. 32% of over 12 year olds in London haven't had anything. ”
A lot of them would of had covid.
My partner cancelled her 40th birthday party last night and tested positive this morning. Same day as she got it last year. Another Christmas is cancelled.
