  • It seems like there isn't a recording available in the wild. Maybe someone was at the Birmingham 1976 concert and has/had one, but buried it.

Having never looked into this before, I can't believe it's not very common knowledge Fuck knows how he had a career afterwards!

There's a 2015 twitter post linking to an EC Wiki page, mentioning that the outburst is quoted verbatim and looking for a recording. The Wiki has been edited in the past year and now shows no mention. He doesn't seem to have apologised, beyond blaming being drunk.

So does Clapton still agree with what he said? “My feeling about this hasn’t changed, really,” he insists. “Years later, when I played at the Mandela concert, one of the promoters said: ‘You know that this is your chance to apologise formally for what you said.’ And I thought: ‘You must be fucking joking.’ I was so insulted.”

Seriously WTAF quotes of the racist rant>>

  • The rant gets hidden from the clapton life programs. @eskay when I learned about the outburst, my musical life changed.

I mention it often, as I find it offensive as a forin person, and the fact of where blues music comes from. Oh and if you have an issue with my comment, is it still ok to listen to gary glitter? Oh it was 72 so acceptable?

  • I mention it often, as I find it offensive as a forin person

I am British and white and I find it offensive

Can we now accept he is an utter despicable person?

    Yes

  • Good point.

I can detest an individual and still admire their art however.

Picasso was despicable as a human, but one of the greatest artists of all time. Mohamed Ali tried to cut a deal with the KKK. Elvis in his mid 20s was bedding a 14 year old girl…..

Gary Glitter on the other hand - his music was shit anyway.
