Both of these now sold and I’m super pleased not to be out of pocket - good to have lockdown projects and I discovered that when it comes to fiddly cabling and gear set up - a summer afternoon + radio 3 is quite a good way to go about it.
Next on the agenda is boring stuff - replacing cables and brake pads on my kids bikes and a general check up. The same on my wife’s Raleigh mixte and ditto my Marin all rounder.
This whilst a Nigel Dean senator 531c race frame I bought 2 yrs ago finally goes in for powder at aurum via clever Mike. This will be my first drop bar road bike and I’m hoping it’ll be built by spring for trying regents laps or excursions out toward the chilterns. Maybe .
Lastly in the shed is a Dahon hammerhead mini velo which was my first bike as an adult. Bought as a student for stashing in small flats. It’s a wierd thing in shock orange but it’s great for taking on the mainline or tube into town to whizz around to shops or meetings on. 1 x drivetrain needs love, rear hub needs a bearing, brakes need a refresh and I’m thinking about powder coat to a more sensible colour. Plus mudguards.
So that’s it.
Marin: for family duties now with potential for touring/bikepacking/long commutes (maybe a switch to drop bar).
Nigel Dean: roadz and that.
Dahon: zone 1 sorties possibly to be replaced with a Brompton one day if full folding is necessary for work life reasons.
A bmx for the new pump track would be fun to have I guess.

‘Curated’ a crankset bought last year for my Nigel dean road bike project - which has been redixulously slow to happen. It was an old silver painted sora - decided to strip it - laboriously with all the wet and dry and some autosol - added a black ring

YEah that black ring was on the wrong way, because ... duh dad ... such a n00b. Figured that out and onto trying to fix the rear dropout alignment. Which was hard because the tool its very self was, well , not aligned. did my best - the dropouts are now reasonably straight so the axle caps have good contact. has not solved the issue of why the wheel is still off the c/L at the brake bridge. meh give up - couple of mm - fuck it, ride regardless. Merlin were very good and have refunded for the dodgy tool.

In other news - the 6700 RD bought two flipping yrs ago - from a nice internet man on here - turned out to be a bit sticky in the swingy back and forward way. a youtube dive led me to exploding it to clean and loob. remarkably I seem not have fucked it.. I replaced the jockeys a while back so it should work lovely nice.

And lastly... in minivelo woes. The creaking cranks - stopped creaking - shortly after I bought a new chainset from spa - that will need to go back...
Rear hub is fucked - might just be bearings but - as is only functioning / daily driver right now and the rim is 15rys old I threw money and imported a new rear wheel - as advertised - from the good people of Holland. Alas what arrived was not a fancy Kinetix Comp hub and rim - but a crude quando / ryde situation. So tomorrow will be post office run to ship back across the north sea.
At some point this weekend I will need to shuck the wheel to have a proper looksee and finger the cups with a biro.
Less problematic is the cockpit - the kuosac brompton bars are lovely but just a little too far away for comfort cruising to work. Some Ladytown's will fix that I think - frosty morn - pre switcheroo

Recap..
Marin: Stolen and i'm still cut up.
Nigel Dean: road . nearly there.. what ? 4 years you say ? meh.
Dahon Mini Velo: New bars are great - mystery BB squeak turned out to be seatpost related. Upgraded from selcof to deda + fabric scoop. Needs a bell.
No real use case anymore though because new job = Brompton - as suspected.Brompton - Search initiated.
Raleigh Pioneer trail - in progress - need to learn how to build wheels - need seatpost, brakes - tyres - unless I run Smart Sams. Unnecessary mixed terrain 4130 hybrid / "gravel/SFAB" bike I don't really need.
17" Alu Rockhopper - found dumped in the woods - could be stipped down for pump track big BMX biz or switched to a cargo / shopper effort - on the fence.

Built up a bobcat trail frame that was lurking in the back of the garage with a bunch o stuff from the parts bin. Shuffled some bits around to switch up the rockhopper as a 1x atb for my wife also. Hit the new Forrest with the kids. Woods tall trees loop was perfect today, had a coffee and accidentally gave my kid a cbd soda. Happy days

Over lockdown I decided to clear my parts bin / garage - instead of selling all the gubbins (which would have been the wiser move prolly) I opted to build bikes around the components I had. Principally two wheelsets - a standard mach 1 pair from a hybrid and a 27 1 1/4 SA 3 speed retro pair from freemans. I was impatient and ebayed a Dawes ladies hybrid and a Falcon in a nice pearl creme colour. Here are the results.
