  • Interesting - my mate had his eye fucked up after the first jab, about 8 mths back. For a while, it looked like he'd go blind in one eye. He still can't see properly and they won't let him get his second jab. He's having to go for monthly jabs in his eyeball, which sound pretty horrible.

He'll still get fully vaxxed as soon as he's allowed, but accepts that side-effects happen.

  • I've decided to not go to my folks next week. To say I'm heartbroken is an understatement.

  • I might not see my dad either. I've been pretty well isolated for a week already, but I'd have to get there on public transport, I'm not up for cycling it atm.

  • Feel ya. Was due to be at mine for full family gathering (17 of us) today. Did a zoom with them and felt very lockdown 1.0

  • My folks are supposed to be driving down for a night next week, save me getting a train back up North. I really don't think it's a good idea.

I've had a slightly scratchy throat since Tues (less so now), as well as feeling generally run down and occasionally a bit achy. Negative on the one LFT this morning so doesn't appear to be covid, but if there's even the slightest chance that the tests don't pick it up I don't want them anywhere near me.

  • I still haven't told my mum. Waiting for my brother to tell her that he won't be going to theirs, but will be going to his in-laws (????!!!!!). Not sure which news is going to be worse. Not looking forward to the fall out of disappointing a functioning alcoholic mother. Dealing with my shit first.

  • Estimates are now up to 2 million by the end of the month, untested I think.

At that speed covid will be done by February.

  • It's a bit more than slight

  • Not just this morning's - daily tests between now and Tues.

Would be much more concerned if my symptoms were worse, but that feels increasingly like a false alarm.

  • If you think you might have Covid symptoms then you can book yourself in for a PCR for a bit of reassurance (it confirmation and 10 days indoors)

  • My sister just asked if me and the other half were going down to theirs for Xmas day (with other sister and parents). Think that's a no. We have been so careful about mixing. I've even sacked off outdoor 5a side the last couple of weeks in order to spend time with my parents and my in-laws.

Also we were meant to be celebrating my dad's 70th at a restaurant on the 29th. If those new restrictions are accurate there's no way we could eat outside (mum has COPD, dad has various issues, and they don't have an outdoors eating area either. )

  • I've been doing the same as have had headaches and muscle pain, all negative but did a PCR yesterday to be sure as I've had 3 friends/colleagues test positive this week after negative LFTs

  • I've had a persistent cough the last couple of weeks but negative lfts. Had to go into work on 9th and got pinged as a close contact, probably from the train so went for a PCR test and have been doing lfts almost daily since.

  • Will my booster yesterday cause me to show positive if I take an LFT today?

No, LFD's test for active parts of the virus.

The vaccines only contain inactive parts of the virus, but they still trigger your body's immune system into going "oh shit, we better deal with this" which includes symptoms like chills, fever, etc.

    Q. I had my vaccine yesterday. I did my lateral flow testing today and it has turned positive. Is this as a result of the vaccine?

    A. No. The vaccine will not cross-react with the lateral flow device (LFD). Therefore if your LFD is positive it is very likely that you have the COVID-19 infection.

Would it give increased protection, same, or less?

  • Would it give increased protection, same, or less?

I've no idea what you mean. The question was whether a vaccine could make a LFD test blow positive - it can't.

What is "it" in your question?

  • Sorry to hear this dude. Would be heartbroken if couldn’t see the mums unit next week. I know that couldn’t have been an easy decision to make.

So, "It" is, if somebody who has a Covid-19 infection has a booster, does that increase the protection (eg, double dose), same or will the Covid-19 infection and booster cancel each other out and result in a lower level of protection?

  • Great timing from NL, closing toy shops in the week before Christmas.

  • Liverpool’s manager says he would not sign anyone who is unjabbed and that those players are ‘a constant threat for all of us’

  • First I heard of the tinnitus connection with the vaccine was this thread. I went and did some googling and it does seem to be a thing.

I’ve had tinnitus for years but it was largely unnoticeable unless I was in a really silent place. But lately it’s been really noticeable for me. Not sure what to do about it, probably nothing.

  • Isolation. Doing Gorillas wrong: the weekly shop. They had to send two riders 😂

  • Also, my wife can’t taste and I can’t smell. Feel like I’ve got the better deal there.

  • Probably confirmation bias but I noticed the same around the time of my vaccine. Didn't link the two and put it down to not being careful enough with ear defenders when doing DIY. I'm sure 90% of it is not wearing earplugs at gigs/clubs as a youth though.

  • Thanks boss. Still waiting for the go ahead from my brother as he was supposed to call her this morning then tag me in. He is being predictably slow, or has just forgotten.
