  • Living up to your name there! That looks delectable!

  • In real life, they first resembled petrified figs.

  • I've spent less time on this thread because it's Bin Night or this, not both. Little mention of Konditor this year, a previous winner - are they still producing the goods?

  • Their bricks & mortar store in Borough Market had disappeared last year but they did have a stall in the market - this year, I don't know.

  • Had a couple of Konditor early in the game. Nothing special, bit mean with the filling too IIRC.

  • Thank you. They were bloody lovely. I’ve got enough mince for another couple of hundred i reckon so I’ve got a right job on.

  • I’ll PM you my address…

  • You’re very welcome to the recipe.

  • Go to the cupboard for an early mincer. Taste buds practically dancing. Reach up, grasp the box and lower carefully to the worktop. Slide out the plastic tray of delight in eager anticipation... WHAT THE FUCK?

  • Do you work in the NHS?
That meets the standard NHS level of 'don't eat the last chocolate'.

  • Very neat mice

@lowbrows - that's brilliant. "Further practical studies are needed."

  • been down the homemade route here and not complaining. first OTP today though. Greggs. Had them heated through and was a proper pep in the afternoon. will OTP again when I join the mothership next week.

  • Two jars of mincemeat arrived in our online shopping order tonight. Homemade ones incoming.

  • Apparently Fortitude bakery is a mince pie pinnacle of London - im making the pilgrimage next week

  • Giz one! Got to leave it on the door step mind 😑

  • Very neat rodents?

  • Having an evening watching the cricket, drinking red wine and sampling some New Zealand mincers. Or Christmas Fruit Mince Tarts as they are often called, as a mince pie is a very different beast here. Nothing to write home about; the most traditional looking was awful, pastry tasting of margarine and an overly sweet filling. A lattice-top from a large supermarket, think Sainsburys, was better but still bland. The best was a mini from a local bakery, buttery pastry but not all-butter, tasty mince with sherry but too mushy and a poor pastry to filling ratio as all minis are. Not a good start, will get some more supermarket ones tomorrow (Sunday) and will visit some proper bakeries during the week.

  • Finally made it to the Pavilion early enough to get a pie. Third time of asking. It was worth the trouble! Lovely browned crust and deliciously juicy fruit filling.

  • Anyone got a perfect mincer pastry recipe?

Got Leiths, Delia and Peyton & Byrne here but not sure which to choose. Willing to go lard if it really is much better.

  • These called out to me from the reduced section (38p). Really not that bad.

  • Strong bread flour and a low temp 40 minute bake, I'm intrigued.

  • Dusty Knuckle ones are excellent. The best I've had so far I think.

You definitely know about the pastry, it's thick, but it's also very moreish. Good filling. All in all a very satisfying pie.
