  • I officially know more people with covid right now than without. Fucking bonkers.

Getting the booster tomorrow and will no doubt catch it in the queue.

  • Test a lot. Avoid everyone. Might be OK... Tough call.

  • Somerset is currently low in cases. London isn’t

Forget the local rates, what is your personal exposure? Are you going to work on the tube and seeing people all day or working from home and having your shopping delivered?

  • I really haven't looked into Omicron. I'm trying to avoid thinking about having to re-can the masters I canned for Covid round 1).

My NHS friends are just empty. Spent. I feel for anybody caught up in this, whatever the circumstances.

  • I can’t see there being a lock down.
Although a lot will hang on who the unvaccinated are.
I suspect schools will find it difficult to remain operational but likely to be on a local basis.

  • Daily LFD testing and mask wearing at all times in my daughter's school halved infections amongst the kids and no more teachers got it. That was about 3 weeks ago so delta but if everyone does the right thing it seems to make a difference.

  • Sounds good. Although is that practical on a national level?
Maybe that could be implemented if there’s an outbreak but might be too late by that point.

  • I don't know how many LFDs we have stockpiled, probably not enough. It also only works while they detect the latest variant.

  • Last couple of days of no3's school going online only. Also planning for minimal on-site for the start of next term.

Also, no1 was waitering at a corporate xmas do last night. 150 out of 650 turned up - it was a pretty sad affair and he got sent home early.

  • School my son goes to does the same along with open windows.

One case in his class, but the pupil sitting next to the infected pupil didn't get it.

Yey for mask wearing and having to wear a coat as the window is open. Well maybe not that ;)

  • Yup. Hollowness is real. But has been since the AZ clotting fiasco for us in EM.

  • Has anyone recaught Covid on here, after having it previously, and been double vaxxed?

  • I'm hoping, having suffered covid really badly in Feb, vax 1 & 2 and booster, I'll be alright for a little while.

But I'm booked on a ferry to France on Monday, so I think my Xmas might be fucked regardless.

  • But I'm booked on a ferry to France on Monday

Apparently there are a bunch of new restrictions, you might want to check.

  • Yep.

Believe I had OG but untested.

Positive PCR on Delta back in Aug after being double AZ.

    Much worse symptoms.

  • Can someone clear something up for me?

Gov. advice is to not get another PCR 90 days from +ve PCR, unless you're symptomatic/close contact/ +ve LFD; all of which are the conditions for which you would usually qualify for a PCR anyway. As I understand it (could well be wrong on this) you can't legitimately book a PCR if none of the above apply.

So under what conditions would you usually get a PCR, but not be able to because of the 90 day thing?

  • Just got the email that my daughters school will be online from tomorrow (they don't break up until Wednesday) but more ominously, they can't yet comment if they will be returning to school in January as it is under review

  • I would think it is 99.99% certain that schools won't reopen at the start of January

  • not me but a colleague has caught covid for the third time. He got it pre-vaccines about 12 months ago, then delta in August and again a couple of days ago despite being triple jabbed.

  • I read this bit from https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test :-

    "
You should not use this service if you’ve received a positive PCR test result in the last 90 days, unless you get any new COVID-19 symptoms.
    "

as you only test within 90 days of a previous positive PCR test if you get any new symptoms. So the non-symptom reasons are out for people within 90 days of a previous positive PCR test.

However, that's a very literal reading of the text on that site, and maybe with Omicron it's better to test for close contact etc, but there's an increased chance you'll still test positive from the previous infection.

  • corporate xmas do last night. 150 out of 650 turned up - it was a pretty sad affair and he got sent home early.

Caught pissing in the soup, again?

  • Ah yeah, found it on the page I previously linked to 🤦‍♂️

You're right though, I think if I met the other two conditions probably better to play it safe and get a PCR and risk a false positive. As I remember though you might have to lie a bit on the application forms.

  • A very informative update from Gauteng. Comparing Omicron to previous waves.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of their infections have hit younger people so far and hasn't really taken off in the older cohorts yet. The average age of Gauteng residents is 28.

  • Seemed to be good news till your edit haha

Edit; although presumably average age hadn’t change.
I’m unsure how helpful this is…?
