I'm guessing that what you are after is an EORI (as opposed to IOSS) number, which your recipient should be able to provide you with.
Cheers. However I thought eori numbers were for businesses importing and exporting from the EU, not individuals.
But in any case, the quote in my post is verbatim from the post office website. So it's them asking for an IOSS number...
