Awful that it took 46 years to settle this. The MoD must have known they were culpable all this time.

Several bookmakers have the Lib Dems as favourites in North Shropshire! Just two years ago they came third, with 10% of the votes. The seat has been conservative for 188 of the last 190 years. That freak Owen Paterson had a majority of 23,000.

Is there no concept of using a car as a weapon for something like GBH in uk law? This seems as deliberate and clear cut as it gets.
Like calling stabbing someone "causing serious injury by dangerous knife waving"

Reported that way makes it unclear the driver was already chasing the cyclist

It starts at 2 years... and the guy got 18 months. Absolutely ridiculous

Moult had lost his temper when Cook accidentally collided with his vehicle at a set of traffic lights
In mitigation, ... âHad his vehicle not been damaged this would never have happened. It was a moment of madness,â
Was the 'damage' the spitting or the accidental collision? Cyclist clearly brought it on himself either way. What a ridiculous thing to say.

He ignored her and caught up with Cook to argue with him on the roadside. After Cook spat on the Land Rover bonnet, Moult got back in the driverâs seat, put his foot down and crushed the victim under the wheels of the car, Minshull Street crown court in Manchester heard.
Sounds like the driver was outside the car after chasing the cyclist down, then got back in the car and ran him over.

He wasn't charged with that though, was he?
Not that the sentence is ridiculous, of course.

Martin Dillon's book is a decent introduction to the chaos in NI. I think the events in NI then had a profound impact on the wider UK shadow history.

I'm surprised the various cycling clubs and bodies haven't considered funding a civil action in these cases. For PR as much as anything.

Some proper Scottish politics here..

Attempted murder doesnât exist for drivers, apparently. âThey made him madâ is clearly a sufficient mitigating circumstance so as not to treat someone who runs over another person, purposely and with forethought and malice, and with no danger at all to themselves or others or even their property, like an attempted murderer.
System is fncked.

The worry would be a jury would be afraid to convict and it would be seen as legitimate to attack cyclists
