In general nicer, more widely available forks are in 1 1/8 (carbon), and the cascading effect of 1 1/8 to other headsets, replacement bearings, clamp diameter of stems and bars mean that 1 inch stuff is restrictive and I think turns one into crate digger for older but not necessarily nicer looking or better functioning stuff.
@Maj wants steel forks and that is their human right - a human right that I respect - but one that I absolutely, 100% do not understand :)
Could you please elaborate on what makes 1" headsets problematic? I am going to need references to scientific articles..
