  • How about going for something vintage lugged 1" Reynolds 531 with horizontal dropouts and mudguard mounts etc and then having the steerer extended so you can use aheadset and modern bars/stems? I have had great experiences doing this. And it can be done for next to nothing if you don't mind tatty paint

  • mentally not strong enough for a "projectTM" but you're right, this would be the most sensible option and provide the best value for money

  • Get a frameset which could work and use a steerer extender to begin with. If that works out for you, you can then get the steerer perminently extended. If it doesn't work you can sell on with no loss.
    Frame is likely to be square and with loads of spacers. BUT just embrace that and don't let all the fuckers on the internet tell you that's wrong. Spacers arent wrong -SPACER SHAMING IS WRONG
