Not really sure what happened there. It’s the only race we’ve watched on about 5 years and the FIA seem to have made up the rules as they’ve gone along.
Gotta love the Dutch fans there, the Dutch always support so fabulously. -

I've not seen lapped cars overtake safety car and safety car come in in such quick succession. Unprecedented as far as I can remember, happy to be corrected.
Farcical, race control knew with that decision that they'd be handing win to Verstappen.

I'd hate to have to listen to endless shit-flinging over the winter if this race was in anyway a contentious result.
Ugh, not looking forward to this. At least we've hopefully got an even better season to come next year.
Best news of all though, Sainz silently creeping into P3 again! And with best of the rest at the end of the season.

Whilst this has been ballsed up it seems.
Not parking in the correct place really irks me.

Dull race and not really the way I wanted to see it done. Mercedes was definitely faster today.
+1 This is gonna be a mess. And I doubt they'll do anything to amend the result after the championship.

What a total fucking farce

What's the point of if this is how races are organised and decided? Might as well watch wrestling.
-
• #8409
Only 5 lapped cars were allowed to unlap not all of them.
Also Perez magically "retiring" after Verstappen pitted.
-
• #8410
can i be a pain and ask for a tl;dr for what happened with the SC in the last couple of laps there?
-
• #8411
Might as well watch wrestling.
+1 agreed.

I feel so bad for Toto's headphones
Sod the headphones, he's hunting down Masi right now to kick him in the balls. Repeatedly.
-
• #8413
Yep, hadn't even realised that until commentary said it. What a total shit show.
-
• #8414
Nah he's just going to absolutely demolish his inbox

Also Perez magically "retiring" after Verstappen pitted.
What was the impact of that?
-
• #8416
What a shitshow
-
• #8417
Perez was no longer ahead of Verstappen at the restart after V. pitted.
Tbf they could've just changed his tyres to achieve the same.
-

Also, fair play to Hamilton/Mercedes at the end of the season. Still maintain that Hamilton was probably at his worst in years for the first bit of the season (still betting on a long covid recovery being the culprit there), but those last few races were pretty incredible how they came back.
-
• #8419
Why wouldn't they just have him pull off track? Don't think he'd be doing anything to hold up Verstappen
-
• #8420
Maybe RB thought one fewer car might affect the decision to let them past?
-
• #8421
I don't know.
When they retired him it seemed like there'd be 4 or 5 more lapped cars between V & H, so one less car to pass by removing Perez from that queue, as easily as he'd move aside it's still distance back.
-
• #8422
I cannot believe what just happened. What a mess.
-
• #8423
Tuned in for my only live f1 in years just as the safety car came out looool what a moment! That was so intense.
I'm confused though. Here's my understanding:- Hamilton is in front
- There are lapped cars between he and verstappen
- Usually lapped cars are allowed through? Meaning they're allowed past the safety car to rejoin the back of the bunch?
- In this case only a certain number of lapped cars were allowed through, leaving H and V together when the safety car left the track
Surely if all lapped cars were allowed to overtake then H and V would be together anyway?
- Hamilton is in front

Here's the relevant rules:
39.11 Perez wasn't changing tyres so should've retired on track?
39.12 it's all or none to pass, not some.

FIA reg 39.12:
If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE" has been sent to all Competitors via the official messaging system, any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the safety car.
This will only apply to cars that were lapped at the time they crossed the Line at the end of the lap during which they crossed the first Safety Car line for the second time after the safety car was deployed.
Having overtaken the cars on the lead lap and the safety car these cars should then proceed around the track at an appropriate speed, without overtaking, and make every effort to take up position at the back of the line of cars behind the safety car. Whilst they are overtaking, and in order to ensure this may be carried out safely, the cars on the lead lap must always stay on the racing line unless deviating from it is unavoidable. Unless the clerk of the course considers the presence of the safety car is still necessary, once the last lapped car has passed the leader the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap.
If the clerk of the course considers track conditions are unsuitable for overtaking the message "OVERTAKING WILL NOT BE PERMITTED" will be sent to all Competitors via the official messaging system.
Seems there are at least two parts there that directly contradict what happened.
Surely a slam dunk for Mercedes at CAS
Came on here to see the reactions. Would come again.
