  • Tuned in for my only live f1 in years just as the safety car came out looool what a moment! That was so intense.
I'm confused though. Here's my understanding:

    • Hamilton is in front
    • There are lapped cars between he and verstappen
    • Usually lapped cars are allowed through? Meaning they're allowed past the safety car to rejoin the back of the bunch?
    • In this case only a certain number of lapped cars were allowed through, leaving H and V together when the safety car left the track

Surely if all lapped cars were allowed to overtake then H and V would be together anyway?

  • Surely if all lapped cars were allowed to overtake then H and V would be together anyway?

Commentary said if they let all through there'd be no more racing laps, H wins. Might have meant an extra sc lap as per rule 39.12, open to interpretation?

That would've required another lap, ending the race under the safety car.
