I know he's been cited here before but another really good tread from John Burn-Murdoch today. His take home messages from analysis of the most recent SA hospital data are:
• Rate of Omicron cases resulting in severe disease is lower than past waves
• But this is due in large part to dilution of that ratio (severe to not severe cases) due to mild cases in vaxxed & recovered
• Numbers with severe disease are lower than past waves but rising, and will keep climbing.
and ... get a booster

The worst thing is that I could have run up the certificate in 10 mins on Word.

Find it really hard to imagine them bringing in any more measures before Christmas

Just booked my booster shot for this Sunday at the oval vaccination Centre. The odd thing is I have just turnt 30 with no health conditions

Still can't book mine apparently.

They may try to, but are people going to listen to “don’t mix at Xmas” now, coming from Boris?

Probably only a 1 in 100,000 chance or even less likely but if your document was checked, the test ID found to be invalid and then they realised the whole cert was faked, you could actually end up with a criminal record. People have had suspended sentences for less during the pandemic.
But you're right, feels like there's so much price gouging going on. I wouldn't blame people for considering doing that if it was the difference between being able to afford to see loved ones or not.

It sounds like the government are having their third or fourth attempt at realising what exponential growth is.
I thinkt they've fucked it tbh. Every 2 days they dither, double the cases. Omicron R is estimated to be as high as 4 in the UK at the moment.

I can't see a best case scenario playing out here. The government have lost control of the pandemic as it heads into its most critical phase so far.

Is there any information or data on a shortened time from exposure to symptoms in omicron?

Positive PCR test back this morning, attended Christmas do last night, 2x negative lateral flows in the 24h previous to that. No symptoms, bar a slight hangover. Only booked the PCR because we had a slight case of user error on the 2nd LFT and thought they were positive for a minute before I verified that two stripes bad one stripe good.

Hope you don't get too poorly, was the party last night attended by many?

Booster this morning. Arm starting to ache. According to forum anecdata I don't know whether to rest it or exercise it! Hiding in bed is winning atm. (No 'exercising'.)

30 odd, so not ideal :/. Probably should have given it a miss, my fears were more as a potential contractee rather than as a spreader, given the negative LFTs

Aw yiss, booked for Saturday, earlier available but work or likely hangovers will interfere.

If you don't know it's milder then assuming it's the same seems the best option, I'd rather it ends up being over exaggerated than under.

So contacts of omicrom cases should isolate regardless of vaccination status, at least here in Wales, but how do you find out if you've got omicron?
36hrs since positive test and still no symptoms to speak of.

My understanding was that they would contact omicron cases (and their contacts presumably).
Edit: hope it doesn’t hit you like a ton of shit.
Yes - that's shocking. Though taking the family to Iceland for Xmas is costing us £300+ for lateral flow before we go and day 2 PCR on return. The lovely Icelandic people give us free ones before we fly back. (Though given the cost of everything else there...)
