I have the Encore and I am just curious. There is this from Baratza

but it makes me curious when companies start throwing out 2.0 versions of their components. I mean, I'm glad they offer an upgrade route rather than a "bin it and buy a new one" approach, but without context from the manufacturer, I go all DiCaprio from Inception.
Ah. Nevermind.

Yeah, the plastic internals is my primary concern with my grinder (and I guess other Baratza grinders). Though the replacements are cheap and look easy to replace: https://www.baratza.com/shop/gearbox-kit
Would happily pay a few times more for a more sturdy replacement kit. It's all well and good now, but 10-20 years down the road, the replacements may not be so easy to get.
Though at this point, with doserless, low-retention grinders becoming more common, I'll likely just aim to pick up a more commercial grinder that I can rely on for a long lifespan and eternally available spares (one of my big reasons for loving the La Pavoni)
Not got any useful info myself, but looking forward to seeing where you go with it. Think the common complaint is that a few of them have plastic gearboxes, not sure if there are more durable options though. What grinder have you got? Not sure if there's a decent upgrade out there for my Sette, thankfully it seems to be holding up fine so far.
