a cunning plan? leave out your best attack as this test is always lost, and then drop the 2 worn out bowlers that shed 500 runs mentally crushed and bring back your leading wicket takers for the second test sparing them a torrid time.

the captains should just walk out to the middle, shake hands and walk back for a late breakfast having agreed to an australia win, they haven’t lost an ashes test here for 35 years.
Its not like theres been an amazing run up to this series to suggest a different result. -

Ah

Yea but both teams could do with some practice

Thanks to BCCI, it’s white ball cricket that counts nowadays, isn’t it?

Oh wait…

Ah - the thrill of an overseas Ashes tour. Savouring that moment when you wake up to find England have been skittled out/conceded 500 runs. Nothing beats it.

That was dire. Watched the first session and then went to sleep. Hameed and Pope the only ones who looked vaguely in nick and really Hameed wasn't timing it well, just leaving it well. Pope looks like he will have a good series though. Not sure about Malan at 3 but who else goes there instead?
Aussies look like they have our number, even with rain this will be over in 3 days

Yes, Covid, yes, isolation, but every recent England cricket tour the pundits always ask about adequate preparation and red ball matches before the First Test.
We now have enough examples that 'looking good in the nets' does not translate to match ready. -

Small mercies.
Due to other issues, we will, at least, be spared Michael Vaughan explaining that the best method to resolve the latest batting collapse is to change the bowling line up. -
• #11497
Broad and Anderson back in to be the only changes for second test - I'd put a tenner on it now!
-
• #11498
Yes, we would have more chance of victory taking the field with a 13-man team.

I hate Vaughan for many reasons (brexity twat, hair transplant, probably mates with James Martin) but when he talks about the tactics and mechanics of cricket, he’s normally on the money.

Going in for seconds tonight, ah
From an Aussie? Let’s just agree that we all say nothing. It’s the colonial way.
