  • Been looking on Bristol council site for a while and can't find answers to these for my flat which is in a conservation area. Managed to find an email address to check if you are in the conservation area so I have speculatively emailed.

    1. Do I need planning permission to retro fit double glazing in my existing (likely original) single glazed sash windows?

    2. The previous owners changed the back 2 bedroom windows for UPVC sash. I don't think they got permission for this. Do I need to apply for it retrospectively?

    3. Do I need planning permission to change the internal layout, move stud walls and make a doorway in a structural wall?

#3 Could be particularly cool (my flat wall vs my friends, though they had a door there already which they just widened without PP)

  • 3- You don't, but you need freeholder's permission. Usually your lease will mention this.
Ultimately, if you change your flat layout and touch structural walls you may want to have the lease plan updated or an addendum inserted, according to what has been authorised.

  • Thanks :)
I have a lease with the management company which I am 1/5 of, who themselves have a head lease with the freeholder. The freeholder is absent and I wouldn't know how to contact them. Management co permission/addendum should be easy but really not sure on the freeholder bit
