  • my search term was: red and yellow book cover

on google, selected images and then scrolled down a fair way

  • Eurgh, I searched last night and found that image very quickly but dismissed it because the word spy was just no visible at all

  • I would try Gorilla All Conditions Sealant. https://uk.gorillaglue.com/gorilla-all-conditions-sealant-clear/ Does all kinds of things. I'd also try a hot melt glue gun. There are various glue sticks available, including some specialist industrial ones which might adhere to your dashboard.

  • The Swapfiets tyres are Vittoria Adventure Tech. The blue ones aren't available yet. Perhaps delayed by Covid? The smallest ones are 32mm. https://www.vittoria.com/ww/en/tyres/city-hybrid/adventure-tech

The TdF ones for Jumbo-Visma were Vittoria Corsa G 2.0, but they've only been sold to the public in black. No word on blue ones.

If you want an all-blue road tyre I think Kenda cheapies might be your only option

If blue sidewalls with black tread are to your taste there are various NOS ones on ebay, from Michelin and others

  • I've just paid online for royal mail tracked 48 postage.

    The webpage says:

Once you have placed your label and - if sending outside of the European Union (EU) - your >customs declaration form onto your item, you can choose to either:

Drop your item straight in to a post box, providing that it's small enough, you don't require proof of postage, and you've not selected a tracked or signature service.
Take your item to a Post Office® branch, providing that you have not selected our Tracked 24 or 48 >service, or Tracked 24 or 48 Age Verification services.
Take your item to a Royal Mail Customer Service Point.

It's going from and to the UK, so I believe I have to take it to the Customer Service Point.

Unfortunately, the RM website gives a link to a 'services finder' and none of the available options are CSPs.

So what is a Customer Service Point, and how do I find one? And as a bonus question, how come I can't drop it at my local post office?

  • One of their help documents says:

    Customer Service Point (CSP)
You can post your items at our Customer Service Points (usually located in a Delivery Office)

Which is of course no help at all.

  • This tells you what a CSP is and how to find your nearest one. It's probably at your local delivery office. https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/138/~/where-can-i-post-my-letter%2Fparcel%3F

Because of Covid chaos I wouldn't believe a word of that web page - I'd go to a Post Office and speak to a human and get receipts for every damn thing.

  • Cheers, but it's "probably" at the local delivery office... so what happens if it isn't? Their services finder should list where the CSP actually is, not where it probably is...

(Not suggesting this is your fault whatsoever)

To further add to the confusion, they offer collection at your home, which allows me to input the tracking information and they've said they'll come get it from me tomorrow morning, as long as I pay them the fee (fee is £0.00).

So hopefully they'll show up and explain... but if this works, I'm left wondering why it wasn't listed as an option after I paid for the postage?

    Confusing as anything.

  • There are no rational answers. It's just Covid chaos. Everything is fucked. I got a parcel from the US. Or rather I didn't. The Post Office said they tried to deliver it twice, but they didn't leave a card. So it sat in a delivery office for a while. Then they sent it back to the US. Now I have to pay to get it sent again.

  • I saw a Swapfiets yesterday. This one had a blue Continental on the front I think.

  • Cheers, good to know it's not just me. Your experience sounds much worse in fact.

  • Best over the counter sleeping aid?

  • for me, squashy mouldable silicone ear plugs (like BioEars or a generic). That and a go-to scenario to think away the anxiety and panic -if that’s a factor (mine are usually I’m in a sleeping bag/bivi somewhere secluded/secure where no-one can find me).

    Otherwise, phenergan!

  • A bottle of wine?

  • These are the ones which won’t leave you feeling drowsy the next day:
    -Cool, quiet bedroom
    -Comfortable pillow with adequate support
    -Dark room (get blackout blinds)
    -No caffeine after early afternoon
    -Avoid alcohol
-Have a bath or hot shower before bed
    -Avoid using screens near bedtime

  • @Jonny69 @vilms5000
I think my wife’s (for it is she who suffers with this) problem is anxiety. It’s when she’s away with work (which is maybe a few nights every few months) - she just can’t shut off, despite being able to just pass out instantly when she’s at home. She has tried various methods including some or all suggested - I think she’s now at the point where as it’s not that often, she just wants something to knock her out.

@PhilDAS yeah that was my suggestion! I think actually drinking makes it worse (or at least the kind of amounts where it doesn’t negatively affect the following busy day on a shoot).

She’s away at the moment and barely slept last night.

  • Have a bath or hot shower before bed

Does this work? I find it wakes me up, almost like doing exercise.

  • IME this depends on whether or not masturbation and ciggies are involved.

  • I'll tell my wife a smoking wank-bath is the forum-approved insomnia cure

  • White noise is good me.

  • non-smoking wank-bath

FTFY. Nicotine is a stimulant, needs to be avoided like caffeine. Orgasm makes your body roll its own narcotics

  • smoking wank-bath

    jazz thread is >>>>>>>>>>

  • same as sticking good earplugs in, that.

BITD when I was an angry homeowner, I used to wake up in the wee small convinced that my neighbours were leaving their tv on all night, or had parked a fish tank with pump next to the wall, or there was a radio tuned slightly off-station going 24/7 somewhere and -ffs- why did they do this? WHY DIDN’T IT BOTHER THEM? This kind of went on for years. I couldn’t get a full night of sleep. Then, one day, I got some really good silicone ear plugs and put myself to bed: The sound of the neighbours and the street were totally blocked out, but there it was: The constant burble of sound: Like a radio set low, on a foreign language station, a couple of rooms away.
Once I realised this was my sound, I fell asleep. And have been able to since (until anxiety/depression but that’s a whole other story). ENDS.
