I have been using a B17 with top and bottom clamp for a number of years in all weathers
Same. Also used their sprung saddles with vertical clamp post with no bother (even though they aren't exactly designed for it, with the double rails). I wouldn't worry.

Thank you! I am now less worried - never heard of this before and unless it happens .....

So, what I was told by the nice people at Brooks England is that with some models, there is a chance of the rails snapping, but not the B17.
In essence, if you buy a new saddle and it comes with seatpost fittings, that is the guidance from Brooks to use those fittings. If your new saddle does not come with any fittings, you can use whatever seatpost you want.
If you but a second hand Brooks saddle and are unsure as to which seatpost to use, contact Brooks England on 0121 565 2992!
Anyone heard of Brooks saddle rails snapping if not fitted in a side clamp seat post (as opposed to a top and bottom clamp)?
Trying to fit a lush old silver railed B17 to my current audax project and have been told that not using the old style side clamp post WILL result on the rails snapping.
I have been using a B17 with top and bottom clamp for a number of years in all weathers but am told it is only a matter of time.
Any thoughts??
