  • If after a wire one, I can highly recommend Beast Rope. (On Amazon tho)

Yeah, I got a beast rope too!

  • And you are quite correct...not for beginners!

  • She may be disappointed

Married to me she’s used to disappointments.

Thanks for all the tips much appreciated.

  • My favourite is a middle weight plastic coated wire cable rope like this one

Heavier means doesn't have to wind it up so much to get it up to speed (which is slower anyway) but because its heavier, its a tough workout for lighter people.

  • I've got a battlerope rope and 2 mins on that I'm a heaving sweating mess...

Lockdown v1.0 and v2.0 were skipping times for me

  • On the skipping rope theme - any advise on how to learn to skip. At 53 yrs old it’s something I haven’t tried since P3.

  • Just start... Its sucks when you start. The good news it sucks when you can skip for 2 mins too... Just keep restarting... Those gaps made up of fuck ups will get less and less.

Rope needs to be right length which will get shorter as you get better.

Try a pvc rope to start. It's the right sort of weight and flex. Also cheap as chips if you hate it.

Tips are in the doperope link above.

If you get it and yous tart enjoying it, buy a better rope. For me it was one with a smooth ball bearing action. Makes it go whoosh.

  • Crossrope weighted, Crossrope standard and a wire Beast Rope.

As a rule of thumb, the thicker the cable the easier to use. With the exception of the weighted ones 😬

  • Thanks for that.

  • Another thing, if you're doing it anywhere other than a super-smooth floor, I'd suggest get a skipping mat. Skipping on bricks or concrete will wear through the rope! And quickly...

I've had to gaffatape my favourite rope because I didn't know.

  • That’s something I wouldn’t have thought of. Thanks

  • I learned to jump rope with a leather boxer’s training rope from the 80s. Damn thing had a steel coil in the middle to protect the rope from abrasion.

    Learnt quick tho.

  • Quick learning curve 😁

  • Decided I'm not going back to the gym for at least the remainder of the year.

Omicron cases are rising fast in Lewisham, 2nd highest rate of increase in the country. Most of the transmission is probably going to be in schools but I imagine gyms probably won't be far behind.

Back to home workouts for me. Anybody got any suggestions for a really cheap and cheerful incline bench that folds flat?

I got one of these as ypou know. Im cuious to see if anyone das a better suggestion

  • Didn't actually realise how cheap it is!

    Folds flat?

  • Decathlon do one with a rack for about £100 irc, may invest in one if lockdown is going to close gyms against

  • I've bought 2 crash mats to stop dropping weights on the floor of a block.

  • Doesn't get much cheaper than this

    (not mine)

  • down the road too!

  • Hi, some advice needed please.

I am listening to Kolie Moore's podcast in which he has an episode on strength training (https://open.spotify.com/episode/7n8PMhRkDmzcUzwMiEHIR7)

In this he talks about moving to a strength phase before going in maintenance as aerobic training really picks up/racing starts. All good. However his view is for cycling specifically is that this should shift focus to single leg.

However when talking about weights, there's a whole section on each leg being X% of a two leg exercise. As in 75% each leg, and some athletes who are at 55-60% have a lot of room to grow.

What movements are they measuring this by? And what would hive mind recommend for 'heavy' single leg, as I am no doubt in the latter camp of having lots of ceiling to grow.

EDIT they reference Bulgarian trap squats and single leg squats. Surely this is on the leg press?

    Thanks.

For reference I used to lift a decent amount for other sports and have just finished a modified 12 week block of Stronglifts to get back squat 105% BW 5x5 and deadlift 120% BW for 1x5.

  • Dammit, wish I had seen this 6 days ago

  • Just watched a documentary on Ronnie Coleman on Netflix. Poor guy can’t walk without crutches anymore, think I am going to give the big lifts a miss
