Gauteng province, where Omicron is predominant, has seen a six fold increase in hospitalisations in the last two weeks. I appreciate that it's pointless drawing conclusions for the UK given the differences in vax uptake, but even so...its freaking sad for SA and other nations with minimal vaccination.

In a way it is good your mum keeps talking...because they will not listen to anybody that is "not their group".
Maybe she can pull some back to the saner side? Sure, it feels they are too far gone but there are some interesting talks on youtube from people that nearly got sucked into all that, but didn't.
I don't trust Big Pharma: Yeah BP is problematic sometimes and perhaps still IS, testing vaccinations in other countries as it is cheaper first, that sort of thing and then there is the opioid scandal in the USA.
However...there are so many eyes on these vaccinations I don't think they can get away with anything, the monitoring is done everywhere.
mRNA is a little newer, so I can understand that perhaps she's a bit more wary.

Due to fly to America via Paris tomorrow morning but the certified LFT I have done isn’t listed by Air France as being accepted.
I suppose I’ll find out when I get to the airport won’t I? What a fucking faff.

Two of Steps themselves have had/got it - Lee currently has it but Faye has now ended her period of isolation.
Why were these national treasures not better protected?

It's their own fault for not building an arena and having robotic versions of themselves perform

Cognitive dissonance=going to a concert during a pandemic and thinking nothing bad will happen.

This is insane. All 120 people were vaccinated and had neg test before attendance. The index person had returned from SA just before but didn't test positive (with omicron) until couple days after party
"Quoting:-
"
Norway is seeing the world’s first omicron superspreader event after a party downtown Oslo last Friday. Of 120 healthy non-symptomatic fully vaccinated individuals with a negative test, two had recently returned from South Africa and turned out to be positive, omicron. 1/Now some 80-90 of the 120 are PCR pos, 13 of these confirmed omicron, the rest waiting for sequencing results. Some of those infected w omicron were not at the party but present at the same restaurant that evening. Not looking good re transmissibility.
Update. Min. 60 at the party infected. Now nearing 100 cases in total that night, some not with the party but present at the same venue. Screening (likely S gene dropout PCR): about 50 suspected Omicron, the rest not yet screened. 13 confirmed Ο. https://nrk.no/norge/fhi_-19-tilfeller-av-omikron-bekreftet-i-norge-1.15757630 (paywall)

Yeah that Norway incident puts the frighteners on me. I know it's too early to be sure of anything but the bad news stories about Omicron are starting to stack up.

Ok time to cancel the Christmas party for me.
In the middle of a renovation, we both have no time to get sick.
And it sounds we just need one person with Omicron at the party reading the news from Oslo.
It's not likely but don't need it right now.

Family wedding for me today I couldn’t get out of, I’m hoping the booster on Thursday has provided some protection already.
-
• #24213
Yeah, we've cancelled plans for next weekend. The realisation that if we caught Covid in the next few days, we'd be unable to spend Christmas with family was a contributing factor.
-
• #24214
This was always my plan for the Winter, but I'm planning on spending xmas with the family around 150km South of Oslo, so fingers crossed that doesn't backfire!

150km South of Oslo
Sounds epic. I'm jealous.

Lots of infection that doesn't result in anything other than mild sickness is what you want from a virus if it has mutated.

Great way to start the work week, two employees ranting about fake virus conspiracies and how “They’re starting Nuremburg 3.0 in Germany now so that will straighten them out”.
Covid can’t kill these idiots off fast enough. I’m sick of hearing this shit every day.

Does anyone know how long it takes until the booster jab is added onto the nhs app? Has been a few days and hasn’t appeared yet. I went to royal Middlesex hospital and it was super busy so don’t think they were giving out any cards as they had with the first two jabs

Oddly enough wearing a mask help me not have a sore throat (currently ill with a cold).
-
• #24222
I'm confused about this. Haven't admissions increased 7 ffold in Gauteng province in the last two weeks?
-
• #24223
But by how much has the positivity rate increased?
-
• #24224
I'm running out of patience with the idiocy as well.
COVID sucks for all of us, but come on...
Can your management do anything?

Private hospital customers can get vaccinated more than most SA residents?
That's me too. Pfizer arm still quite painful.
In other news, move over Bangface - a Steps concert is the omicron super-spreader evnt it seems.
