The top one is quite hard work as well.
If you unfocus your eyes it goes 3d like those old magic eye pictures. Imagine that happening on a staircase! (Not a good thing)

LOLLLL

I actually looked into that recently, someone makes it but its eyewateringly expensive

We were recommended to have a fixed angled letter tidy for the inside for security. Stop chancers from being able to reach something up to the lock. SDS in Battersea have a huge range of door furniture and are nice to deal with.

y u no Banham
Pointless spending that much money when they can just stick something solid through the glass and reach through to unlock it. ERA is more than enough, IMO.

This is correct. Burglars don't pick locks. Banham is a status thing.

Yep

We actually had a Banham lock that came with that door, but the cost of a new barrel and fitting alone was more than twice what the Yale we had cost.
And the flimsy, cracked, single pane sidelight monstrosities mean that the lock would just be something for burglars to laugh at on their way in.

(New glass to surround the door is next on the list)

We already ordered a flappy one, mainly as a draught excluder and to hide the bolts - wouldn't a flap serve the same purpose in making it harder to reach a lock?
Also, I bought a door brush this morning - £5.98 from Toolstation, and it has stopped a cold draught brilliantly, and also hides the untidy doorstep cover thing. In terms of home improvement per £, it's up there with foam strips for window sealing as one of the best things I've brought.

I bought a door brush too but ended up getting the whole door refurbished and they routed a groove in the underside to fit an integrated brush.
Re: the flap. Depends if it folds up out of the way I suppose. We bought a set of furniture from SDS that came with a flap and the guys doing the door said to go back and exchange it for a solid cover. I did that and they only charged me £4 difference. I personally think it looks nicer too.

Could I see a picture of how it looks on your door?
I do like the look of that.
I think I've used SDS before, their pricing is weird. They have escutcheons for £3.50, and then almost identical looking ones for >£40

• #49968
Yeah, prices are all over the shop. Not sure if it relates to quality or availability. I'll look for an internal photo or get off my arse.

Continuing the security chat, anyone have any recommendations on diamond mesh grilles to fit on the inside of a door with a window (to prevent the window being smashed from outside in order to get at the thumb turn inside? Banham do a custom fit but it’s obviously spendy. Other sources seem almost as expensive. It feels like the market has been stitched up.
The really smart way to do it is recessed nuts with wooden plugs hammered in and then planed + painted to match the door.
Also re the lock, y u no Banham?
