  • Can anyone who has carpets that they're happy with let me see a picture?

We're thinking of getting carpet upstairs but I can't get excited about it, and I can't imagine any of them looking good from the small swatches in shops. But I know they can do.

It apparently can't be Berber-style, even though they're the only ones I've been mildly interested in, because we have cats who love flexing their claws and they've got really stuck into the outgoing loop-pile carpet.

  • Not to everyone’s taste I will admit

It was there when we moved in and I failed to persuade my husband it was worth pulling it all up and sanding the boards when we had a “perfectly good” carpet, so I decorated round it. It’s kind of grown on me now.

Mind, it was originally not just the bedroom but also the landing and the stairs, which are open plan to the living room. That was definitely a statement feature.

  • God imagine coming home pissed and having to navigate your way up stairs with that carpet. Almost enough to guarantee quick dash to the bog for a technicolour yodel.

  • I actually really like that. Perhaps in moderation though - this is due to cover two floors.

Our current criteria are light coloured and not patterned but maybe we should branch out.

  • Need a proper good shampooing as you have no ideas what have went in it.

We ripped our out the moment we got the keys as it a horrid white and smell of wet dog.

Sanding takes ages but doable, do it yourself can save a whopping £200 each room.
