Sorry the ratchet remains inside. So you need two slots in the front panel but none in the others. Couple of big washers could keep the back panel off the frame allowing the strap to remain outside there without being pinched. Washers should be used regardless.
Probably won't simplify things much honestly.
The biggest issue is that all that wood weighs a fawking metric ton.
