Yes, I haven't changed the strings yet. The (lack of) brightness isn't a bad thing at all, from demos I was expecting a lot more zingy treble and was expecting to need to tone it down a bit for what I wanted. Probably just to do with the setup I quickly tested it on - straight into the hi-Z input of my audio interface with a preamp plugin, compressor plugin and Ampeg SVT-VR emulation. Haven't spent much time tweaking any settings.
Have you got the original shipped fender strings on still? They're not particularly bright in my experience. Or maybe you're thinking of a more active / musicman stingray sound? In which case an external preamp like a sansamp bass driver might help that (yeah, throw more money at it lol)
