  • In our new place Emma is going to be commuting from south-coast to London a few days a week and I'll be wfh/playing housemaid so we're going to be on different schedules and don't fancy getting up at the crack of dawn to make her a coffee but there's also fuck all decent coffee in littlehampton so she requires caffeination for her 2h commute.

as much as I love my vario it has it's little idiosyncrasies and when I've tried to teach emma to make coffee in the past it's required the lions share of the tutorial to impart it's secrets. whereas the gaggia is pretty much plug and play.

so I'm wondering if there's any new grinders worth looking at in the £250-350 range (including funds from sale of vario in that) for a workhorse grinder I can dial in when i'm using it then we just fill the hopper and get a consistent dose every time so she can push a button to dispense, use the ocd to flatten the grounds. tamp and is good to go. without risk of her knocking the sliders and changing the grind settings completely.

I'm not bothered about filter grind so just needs to do fantastic espresso grind.

  • Eureka Mignon Specialita is right at the top of your price range but maybe worth a look? Grind adjuster is out of the way and time-controlled dosing.

  • Sage Smart Grinder Pro at the lower end of that budget, but it does exactly what you want and good espresso.

  • Could you just do that before bed? So it’s ready to go in the morning (yeah I know fresh grind is better)
