  • Watching “Saj” squirm on the Marr show this morning trying to dodge confirming that masks were now mandatory was hilarious.

He looked proper annoyed about why they were ignoring SAGE's advice to recommend WFH where possible, seems a joke I now have to wear a mask on a bus or in the shop briefly but crack on as normal at the office

  • But. The UK has given 46 million second doses (80.4% of the population).

The UK population is circa 68 million. Thats in no way 80.4%, unless you're saying eligible population?

  • I'm not saying anything - partly cos I'm terrible at maths! Follow that link I posted to the gov stats, there's a chart which says 80.4% of the UK population has been done. Don't know if it's eligible or not but I guess so.

  • Ah OK!

Yes they're fudging the numbers to look nicer...

    Latest reported vaccination uptake
The number of people of all ages who have received a COVID-19 vaccination, shown as a percentage of the population aged 12 and over

  • The Graun is publishing data on its front page every day, and it's just reached 69% in the last few days. It doesn't say what this is 69% of, was assuming this was of the vaccinatable pop.

  • How can Haiti, where there is no functioning healthcare system, have such low rates?

  • As the people that can travel don't really mix with those that can barely afford to live? Or is my impression of Haiti wrong?

Morocco seems to be doing wellish but they just suspended flights from memory. Actually looking at figures the was a spike mid to late august.

  • i doubt they have an advanced testing regime in place.

  • Haiti claims an extremely low infection rate.
I thought the very small number of visitors would explain it. But the pandemic has been around almost two years, and it only takes a few infected people to start the ball rolling.

  • Haitian life expectancy of 64 might explain the mortality rate.

  • Boosters for all! (Apparently)

  • Haiti claims an extremely low infection rate.

There is little to no testing in Haiti and the data is unreliable

  • Six cases of the Omicron variant are detected in Scotland, taking the total to nine found in the UK so far

    So that's Christmas fucked then.

  • I'm hoping this new variant will be what turns this into a normal seasonal thing rather than what closes down everything again. It seems it's more transmissible but reports from SA saying symptoms are rare and mild (and gone after a couple of days) are actually encouraging imo. If a less severe variant can outdo all the others and become dominant it's a really positive thing. Fingers crossed

  • One player had international duty in SA. Thirteen Omicron cases in the team back home.

  • "
    You are in a queue

Lots of people are trying to book an appointment.

You are number 1549 in the queue. Your estimated wait time is about 5 minutes.
    "

Seems lots of people are trying now they've announced the boosters are going to be brought forward.

Seeing if I can move my appointment a bit closer, although I'm giving blood in a couple of weeks so I can't move it too far forward (they want 7 full days gap since having a vaccination).

(Got in, can't move it any earlier, happy with that anyway.)

  • can't move it any earlier

I wonder if the people that run the website logic weren't given any notice and it may be possible to move it earlier in the next few days

  • In the past they've definitely been given advance notice of things, whether or not they've made them live yet I'm not sure.

I think it's because it's just the JCVI have only just recommended that the boosters are brought forward, it's still awaiting the Government to take up that recommendation.

I'd only be able to bring mine forward 10 days or so given my blood donation appointment, and my blood donation appointment is more important in the grand scheme of things so I won't be cancelling it just to get the booster a few days earlier.

  • I know the age drops were live on the website before officially announced but as you say that wasn't a government policy change but an operational how many free slots are available thing.

  • So, we've both been able to book boosters, but not until 6 mths after second dose. As I'm working with the homeless over the Xmas period, would rather have had it before then, as many if them have severely compromised immune systems.

Are there still any walk-in centres around Ldn?

  • Walk-in centres are searchable at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site/

The rules currently say 6 months wait so maybe wait a day or two and see if they change.
