Say you win the Euromillions...morally speaking, is there an upper limit on how much to spend on a watch? I've got my eye on this one. Isn't it perfect? It ought to be in the V&A.
The Sultan of Brunei commissioned it. The brief was to fit the mostest, bestest diamonds on it. It cost him £960,000. And it has a quartz movement. The seller isn't saying how much he wants for it. https://www.watchguru.com/WatchGuru/Watch-Details/Audemars-Piguet/Royal-Oak-Baguette/13671

What is it exactly that you like about this terribly ugly watch?

There is a Bulgari Octo that exceeds that for execution and design IMO - you almost can’t see the metal, it’s extraordinary.

Good question😂

The proportions are just right. It looks balanced. Flawless.

The stones are too crowded because there's not enough metal. The branding and the hands and numerals are too overt. It's just not artistic.

The proportions etc are probably more a question of whether you prefer the RO design or the Octo design. I prefer the RO design, especially the bracelet.
But the execution of the Octo is on a totally different level. It’s also far more considered in how the stones are incorporated into the design of the watch - the dial being divided into 12/24 segments and the bezel into 60, etc. The RO looks aftermarket by comparison.
Not sure either of them are what I’d call artistic but as a piece of jewellery the Octo seems finer to me, though the stones are smaller.
Both vulgar displays of wealth ofc

Not sure what I would prefer.
Those or a marble G Shock. 😁

I have to agree 100%.
Both watches look horrendous to me. Almost as bad as a modern Daytona.

Definitely agree. The Bulgari is just such a better example of the craft of setting you can tell it’s made by a jeweller not ac watchmaker. The stones also look better. To be fair there is almost 30 years between them. The precision of stone cutting tolerances and planning will have improved in that time. I’d love to see it IRL.

There's about 7 of those Bulgari Octos on Del's stall at the back of the market up the city near me. I reckon he'd knock a fiver off for me so, £17 posted if anyone is interested?

I'd be careful around all that water with only 100m water resistance. You need at least 500m for a dip in the pool.

I came across this beast in an antiques shop in Crystal Palace this morning. The photo does it’s size little justice, it’s probably the best part of a meter across.
